Mille Cochin Info

I just read this!
Isn't project work fun? Working to improve them all so we can get them entered in shows is a long road but so fun.

I am to the point where I am scratching my head and wondering who to put with whom to improve what is lacking. But as you say when they are lacking something then I do not have what I need to improve it. I will need new blood.

I am hoping that the chicks from Fred and the dark girls will yield something but if it isn't in their genetic make up to do so then I know I won't get much further.

We will have to look into trading at some point. I am pretty sure I will have to add something to my breeding pens to help out.

She has gorgeous type! Pattern is still in the works for us all but type is something you look like you have with her! I would love my hens to have that shape!
I can't wait to see your kids from her and an awesome roo you choose.

You are going to have Cochin babies running all over. How wonderful that will be!
Your birds are so beautiful and I can't wait to see results from all your breeding possibilities!

Here's my lil 4 or 5 week old cockerel.......He has more brown/red with black Vs and white tips, coming in all over....showing signs of some on his chest coming in too

Here's one of the pullets....she has some black coming in a little too, if I part the feathers and look at what's coming in. She's a touch younger than my cockerel.

And I have a plain partridge-y pullet.

I've been hatching like crazy and have two tragedies so far - 6 smothered themselves when they were transfered to their coop and then my frickin' pet sitter let 10 die

Anyway, I have high hopes for those left, but especially for this cockerel. Even the tiny feathers on his head are coming in with chevrons... and you can already see the chevrons starting on his chest. If he keeps the vermillion color I think I'll have a looker!

very pretty... And, Mike, your chest pic is outright amazing. I gazed at it a few times and almost commented but had to run. That's the biggy with mine... not a lick on the breast. Im getting them everywhere else and pretty consistent on some of the young birds but, NONE on the breast. I have some black mottleds with more brassiness than my original mo/w/brassiness and I plan to put those "splits" I guess you could call them back to those birds with the nice saddle and hackle chevrons. ... already thinking of next year. Now I know why the pigeon guys love them so much.. You get at least 2 generations in 1 year.
