Amy, Schmoozle's daughter is a beauty

I, like you, want to keep everything until I can determine if it is a "keeper". Sometimes that is almost a year, especially for the boys. However, I have scaled down & sold off many so that I can concentrate on improving "type" along with pattern, in the remaining birds. I'm down to 3 roos & a dozen hens with about 25 kids in the grow out pens & 50 in the brooders. All of these "should" have the type improvement I am looking for. Spring 2012 should be exciting ~!

Wow Amy the width on that red roo! There is a lucky someone receiving that guy! And Schmoozle's daughter.....great shape on her.
I took a couple pics today in our winter sun. The low light doesn't make for good pictures but these 2 pullets are promising. They're only 3 months old.
They exhibit partridge heritage, maybe it will help distribute the black. My hens tend to lack chevrons in the breast. Am showing one MFC hen at Denver's Natl Western Stock Show.

I like this one's body type!

Then a so-so cockerel, would rather he showed better type even this young...

And here is my video I shared in the other thread too. Its a quick vid from Saturday when I put some of my gang out together. Sorry some of my boys in the video are looking in rough shape from fighting over their lady friends

That first one is very nice in type and the other two will probably fill out nicely. They go through that stage where you scratch your head and wonder if they will shape up but I bet yours will. They are always beautiful.
A lot of my girls do not have the black chevrons on their chest either but I am sure eventually it will show up there. I still have so much to "fix" on my birds that I try not to look at that pattern too harshly. I am sure yours will get better with breeding, too.

You have some wonderful type on these birds! Thank you for sharing! I really like that last girl. Thin on the rump but looking nice!
Sometimes it seems too few of us are actually breeding the MFC and I sometimes feel all alone but then come here and see all the beauties and get all happy!

Aww thanks. Yeah I am really trying to work on type more than anything. Once I have that then I'll work on color. The last gal had the most awesome tail and the darn roo boys tugged it out!

Trying to mate more than the other etc.... I so wish I got her pic's prior to that happening. She has some real nice shape. I need to get updated pic's of the rooster of choice I picked for them. If only I could be a fulltime poultry farmer and not go to work

Had to share some piccies!

First, my old girls. Old as in, my starters (about 8-11 months old). All three came from Erin (Msbear).

I haven't been able to get any good pics of Millie. Sadly, something funky is going on with her tail and she is not very photogenic. She should start laying in the next month or so.

Mildred has come so far. She has become my favorite, even though Millie used to be. She is much more curious and sweet.

Bridgette is my BC pullet. She is the youngest, around what I assume is 8 months old. She's squatting and may have started laying. Not sure if I missed an egg the one day or if I have two laying. I haven't had two eggs in one day since... But I have had an egg almost daily and Mildred has only laid every other day before.

(Why doesn't she have any black in the hackles?)

Now, on to the new babies in the grow out pen! Out of 15 eggs shipped, 9 hatched. They are now 12 weeks old.
Half of the group:

My daughter's Frizzles:

I am not sure if the Mottled is a he or a she. It's bigger than the others and their is red in the comb and wattles, but they are not as dark or pronounced as the other boys.

She's not a calico/MF, but she's a she! I am only sure of three girls of the 9 that hatched. Both of my BCs are cockerels.

And...
82238_eggies.jpg

I have 6 Millies, 6 BCs, about 9 black/lav splits and the last 6 are blue/black mottled. All are bantam Cochins! They hatch next week (17th - 19th). All the eggs and chicks in the grow out pen are from Rosalyn (Luckypickens).

My flock is growing - slowly.
