Mille Cochin Info

Nancy! So lovely! Your new birds are so terrific and will give you so much to work with! You have some awesome birds for future breeding!
And I am just going to hug up Gracie if ever I see her! She is too totally adorable!
Love the chicks out of Ruby Rod and Inky but I suppose I am prejudiced! You are going to be able to cull out those unneeded boys unless they have fabulous type but I think you are working with some really good stock there so you will be able to pick and choose easily from all you hatch and keep some typy MF patterned birds.

County Boy, I have crossed Mottled and Splash and got some interesting colors and patterns but nothing I woudl use in my MF project. However, to each his own and you will learn an awful lot just by experimenting and keeping good records. Try some and keep us informed on your findings.

And I've got some new chickens I'd like to introduce!  (Show off:yiipchick )

Hi Nancy~ found your post you mentioned, they look so good, that little roo is growing up very handsome! So happy they have such a good new home together~:)

Thanks Twyla! I am so glad I have them.
Thanks, Amy! I can't wait until their chicks grow up. I think they're all super nice , and I'm probably not being biased at all

Is it wrong that the majority of my pictures of Gracie have chickens in the background?

(That's Inky's chick behind her right shoulder, and a Silkie on her left.)

Seriously, she is my little farm girl. Don't know how I ever survived all these years without her.

WestKnollAmy, I was looking through some of your profile pics and I came across a pic titled Belvedere. I was wonderignwhat his parents looked like or what breeds they are. I really like him. Well, really, all your birds are fantastic.

Thank you Fancy Feathers,

I wish I had caught it when all six of the chicks were sitting on the board. I think I have about 30 mille/calico chicks now and all are a bit different. It will be fun to watch them mature.

She is just too adorable. I love looking over your photos of her around the farm on your FB page. I know she makes every day a delight for you and I love how the chickens follow her around. It is stuff dreams are made of!

Belvedere has been sold to wholewheatchicken. She hasn't been on here in quite a while with us. I sold a pretty MF patterned hen with him and was hoping to see what her chicks were turning out like as mine from that pair look very nice.
Belvedere is out of my Schmoozle and a buff Columbian/MF hen, if I recall. I would have to go back in my record book to make certain but I am pretty sure that is who he is from. You can see them on my website www.westknollfarm.com/Mille-Fleur-Cochins.html.
Belvedere is from my Mille Fleur bantam Cochin breeding project. I started with buff Columbians crossed with MF and then added Mottled. I have only been doing this project for about 3 years but feel I have made great strides in achieving very nice birds in type and pattern, especially starting from almost scratch as you will see on my website. I started with a goal and have stayed focused with them. Some people may not care for my birds but I am the only one they have to please and I am happy when others find them pretty too.
Thank you for the compliment.

Here is a recent photo, albeit not a good one, of two of the girls I hatched from Belvedere and the MF hen I sent with him to wholewheatchicken. They are hopefuls so I am keeping them around as well as a few others. They are the MF ones in the back. Ignore the blue Columbian (Frizzle project), blue olive egger, blue Marans and the blue bantam Cochin down at the bottom and in the back. I have tons of projects that I do not list on my website and most people never see unless they visit the farm. I hatch a LOT of chicks each year, all year around.

Hi Janice! How is Willie Wonka doing? LIl' Barred Boy is doing his job with my partridge hen - I have 8 of their eggs hatching this weekend.

I hatched out about a bizillion mf/calico chicks this spring - now just waiting for them to grow up so that I can decide which to keep, which to sell, which to trade, etc. We'll need to compare notes at the end of the summer and arrange another swap!

Speaking of Schmoozle, may I present Sir Shmoozler, son of Schmoozle, in all his 3 month-old glory?

He is definitely at the head of his class - tried to convince the other boys that girls were fund to chase today - they all stared at him like he was nuts!

Love this close-up of his face:

I can't wait to see how he fills in as he gets older. He has a wonderful mottling on his bloomers as well - just can't see from these pics.

Awww! He is so handsome. I can see some red coming out on him already (Schmoo didn't get his til after his 1 year old molt) and the white tipping on his feathers. He is one of the rare black babies from this pen. I still have that same pen going and still hatching since I like the babies so well. I know I need to change them around since I have about 30 of his kids I have kept back for my next breeding generation. I am going to cull harder this fall......I think. LOL
