Mille Cochin Info

LOL Macho is out of Ruby Rod and Inky, the very first birds I bought.. from you!

I remember seeing Ruby Rod's picture on your For Sale page on your website.. I knew I really wanted him!

Back then my hubby thought I was crazy for spending so much money shipping a couple of chickens... OH How Far We've Come!!!

Since then, in Mille Fleurs, I bought birds from Twyla and Lynne and hatched eggs from Roslyn.. After quarentine and introduction, all of my MF Cochins ran together.. so now I have chicks like Motley
who I have no idea who his parents are...
some of the older chicks I can make a good guess at who they're out of; like Sandy, I'm certain her mother is Peaches.

I'm looking forward to getting breeding pens set up, though, especially now that the oldest pullets are starting to lay, and the oldest cockerels are jumping everything that doesn't move fast enough................ It's going to be SO much fun deciding who goes with whom!
Can't wait to see those chicks

Pretty birds! It just has not been in the cards for me to have Mille fleurs! I had one chick I hatched from Lynne's eggs but she was killed by a raccoon this spring! I have had terrible luck with shipped eggs this spring too. I did get one project MF to hatch this spring but still nothing close to MF. I want some so bad!

Yours are gorgeous!

Small is good! I think she looks great

Don't put her with mottleds.. you'll only end up with mottled birds with leakage. If you put her with columbian you'll be closer to the right track for Mille Fleur...
What are your goals for breeding? If you're wanting to breed Mille Fleur then your best bet, honestly, is to buy a nice Mille Fleur cockerel.

Thanks :)
Your project MF girl from Amy's eggs is actually pretty much on track for you, breed her to a MF rooster and her chicks will give you gorgeous birds with good pattern. The mottled behind her will help add the chevrons to the chests, and it gave her a boost in type.

Nancy! How the heck did I sell birds that produced such great type? LOL
I am betting he will get some red coming out in his hackles later when he molts. Just like my Schmoozle has done as he has gotten older.
Ruby Rod and Inky are a fine couple and I am so glad they have produced well for you. I think I am going to enjoy watching your breeding program next year. The choices you have are going to be challenging and rewarding!

Yup, he already has a tiny amount of red.. if you look really hard you can see it in that pic.. on like the bottom of his hackle. I'm already choosing his girlfriends! LOL

I am wanting to breed MF's. I have my Columbians that I am just getting started with. But I have longed for MF's for 2 years now! I should have taken Erin up on her offer a few years back! I had bought some of her columbian eggs just when she was getting out of Columbians. They didn't do well and she offered me some MF eggs but I said no,,,,,,, Can you believe that?? How silly was I?? LOL

LOL You live and learn!
Columbians are beautiful, I have a friend here in SD who had a rooster who knocked my socks off when I saw him

I need to sell off the last of my Mille Fleurs~ one amazing hen ("Mellie" on my website) and 2 Roos.

If you are serious, make me an offer. I ship anywhere but VA & HI. NPIP. :)

I can't believe you are down to just a few left to sell, Stephanie. I am sure they will move out soon and free up more room for your next project. Too hard not to have more birds.

I have several nicely marked cockerals that I should sell but they are typy and have nice pattern so I can't seem to let go of them. Even with DH making me close my eyes and handing them to me so I can go by type only, it is much too hard to decide. I suppose that is good, in a way.
The one thing I have always been able to do is sell the lesser typed birds but now with about 7 boys all carrying that great breeding potential I am at a loss. As they keep growing, I keep thinking I can pick apart on some faults. Maybe by spring...... LOL
