So sorry for your losses Fancy Feathers. That just sucks a big sloth toe!

Are there any building sites nearby that might let you have some scraps for little to nothing?
Yes it does.

When my husband bought the 2x4s and plywood they gave him a bundle of "scrap" 2x4s (most are around 3 feet and in pretty good shape). It's the local farm store, we're on a first name basis with the good folks there.. I've bought probably 90% of my feed and supplies there so that goes without saying.
I guess need to find some easy coop and pen plans. Neither of us are builders. I'm working on a pen and I have a general outline.... but I have to confess for the most part I just stand around shaking my head. Ok not really but it just seems like it is Soo slow going. My Gramma also redid her kitchen cabinets last fall and gave me the doors - with all the hinges intact - to use, so that really should make it easier. If I knew what I was doing it seems like it would be done by now.

Brrrr they look cold

Well I went and threw the old piece of vinyl over the washing machine last night, and took some pictures of some of the cockerels in the one brooder.
This is a Prince son

These are Bran boys

This is a cockerel out of Dinner and Yoyo, he looks a lot like Dinner did as a chick.

& this one I don't know his parentage.

'Much as I love them, it'll be good to get these boys out of the house!

Nancy, I believe you do have some to work with! I know you will love these little ones just as much as any others. And knowing who they are out of will make them even more precious! They are beautiful!

Well, I guess I am not going to be selling my MFCs. I can't get $10 each for the girls around here. I was going to take them to an auction for a quick dispersal, but I can't do that. They are a project and I want them kept together. I would be lucky to get $2 for each girl, anyways. Plus, Bridgette came down with some kind of problem over the weekend. She couldn't walk for a few days. Today she isn't using her beak and wings to steady herself and 'crawl' with her feet curled up, instead she's walking flat on her legs with toes uncurled and without supporting herself. I hope she pulls out of whatever this is. I checked for the obvious stuff and started her on vitamins. It must be a deficiency since she's making progress in her recovery.

Erin, you will still be getting Byron back.

I hatched my first MFC chick for the year. I have many more set.

I also set up my breeding pens this week. It stinks only have two breeding age boys and a young cockerel that the girls beat up on. I decided to use Beakman, my mottled rooster over Byron and Bridgette's BC looking daughters. None are laying as far as I know.

Junior is in with the 3 girls that have breast flowers and nice color and the smutty BC with nice type. Junior has decent type. I put my calico cockerel in with Amy and Amelia - the black w/ red leackage Mottled x MFC girls I hatched from Amy's eggs. Byron is still in with Millie and Mildred. I will be selling Mildred. Her back is very long and she has way to much white now. Millie at least kept quite a bit of her buff color.

-sigh- I guess this means it got serious.
