Mille Cochin Info

I'd like people's opinions on these youngsters. We will most likely sell the very dark brown girls and the Mottled boy.

These are the 7 babies I have coming up from late May. I set eggs to break brood on 2 of my girls and then had buyers fall through for the chicks. Now that they are getting a little bigger, I welcome your help in deciding who to hang on to.

I like this one's color. I keep wondering if maybe she's a cockerel? the picture below she is with a definite cockerel hatched the same day. Could be a late bloomer, this one.

I'm liking this little girl (above) and, she's got some chevrons on her chest, Yay!

The cockerel (above) is looking a bit partridge. The kids really like him as he is a bit different from the MF Project birds we've hatched before. I thought I read that the partridge gene can help with breast flowers. Is this correct?

I personally think you can use those very dark brown girls given they have good type. But you will have to wait and see on that as they are still young. I don't know to much about the partridge gene but yours looks like a little keeper. Just remember, think type for the long run.

Thanks, Countryboy. I don't have high hopes for type on the brown girls as their mother has absolutely NO cushion. I do love her and she is one of the few with a name 'Suzie' has been moved to the layer coop. I really should post her picture as a 'what NOT to do'.

My milles!

I am doing as some suggested and am getting a blue cockeral to go with the three blue girls. Then going to get another terracotta shade millefleur to go with the lemon and dante the boy in the photos.

I love dante too. He is 17weeks now and finally learning to court his ladies! Love the blue baby too she looks like she will have type! Going to pick up my new babies at the weekend. Just got to resist bringing home more than 2

Is the Mottled a Mottled or a Split? I like him.. I like the 2 chicks at the top right best, I agree with selling the 2 brown girls.

I can't answer about the partridge gene, but he's a decent boy, and if he's a favorite it certainly doesn't hurt to hang on to him!

Thank you fancy feathers I am really pleased with how he is turning out! Blarneyeggs I agree about the two in the top right corner in the group photo they have nice cushions good type. I love looking at lots of photos even though in the uk we call them pekins they are very similar. Backyard chickens is great so much info and so many experienced breeders!
