You aren't the only suckers for roosters. I honestly can rehome hens a lot easier than my boys. Eli is staying for a long time. Right now, he is my favorite growing up! He does look and act just like Henry from my January hatch! The only difference is their chick colors. Henry was yellow and Eli was black with some red on his head. But both fathers had calico in their genes and the mothers were full sisters.

eli is a beauty, wouldn't mind having him for my mf pullets but i understand you hanging on to him.

I got the chance to use a 'light box' at the show this weekend. We tested it out on this guy and then I forgot to photo the other birds. Dang! I love the idea of a light box, may have to build me one!

My roosters look closer to type than the females as far as I can see. Will have to take some time and photos to check that out. My roosters have big combs but that is about it as far as I can see and even that looks good to me! I wish it was ok for type.
The hens are really pretty though. hmmmm Maybe I am dissing them because they has only just started to show any white coloring at all. One has had the black chevrons but no white at all till recently.
Havent been looking past that.

How old are these birds? I met a breeder this weekend who is working on the MF Cochins, he said the birds will continue to add white continuously as they age. Has anyone else here found that to be true?

I believe that is the influence of mottling, people believe that the lack of pigment gets bigger as the birds age. The white areas grow in the juvenile stage, then reduce as the birds grow, until maturity when the white starts extending again.

See my partridge with mottling for an example on a patterned bird. Here is the chick, more white then colour.

Gradually again the white starts to go.

Starting to fill in on the neck.
