and why do you want to get rid of the sire, didn't you say that he produced all of your other cockerels? if it were me, i would keep him and see what else he throws. you can always breed to a hen that has better color , points that he doesn't. personally, i like him but then i'm not a true breeder, just have a dozen of a breeder that was working on the mille fleur's years back, i like what i get from his bloodlines but like i said, not a true breeder like most on here.SO what your saying now is to try and work with all my mutts? I rather get rid of some of these boys since I have six and now Possibly a Seventh one. GRRR
I will keep My number 3 Since he does have the least amount of White and I think I will keep number 2 since he has the tan spots and is looking more Calico. I could use more calico's..

nancy, amy and county boy are a few of the mille breeders on here that have been working on them for years, talk to them on what to breed to , to correct these faults, altho it won't be a short road but they know how to go about it.My sire from what I'm told has to much white
He's got a nice fluffy tail and broad chest his down fall is the wings do go to the ground. Now his little youngsters have small tails right now but they aren't full grown. Mine have always changed once they hit an earlier age. This usually includes bigger butts or rather tails. Lol. But they all still carry there wings low. Now number three I was noticing tonight has very nice spread even points unlike the rest in which they have a few points then towards the back of the comb it turns into like a blob. It seems like the points are being combined into one blob like comb. I'm gonna have to guess and say this is probably something that is frowned apond. But I'm no expert.
Now papa I also noticed the end of his comb is fallen sort of speaking I can't remember the technical name but the back of his comb is slightly laying to one side. SADDLE I believe that's what they call it. I'm sure that's not a bonus point for him. Lol. So far I have not seen any of the others have a fallen or rather saddle comb. Now Mille number five is from papa and he's much much older then Mille one through four. So I believe the youngsters milles one through four will change on me again perhaps I should hang tight and see how they all turn out once they have fully developed and hit adult hood.
LOL, OK, I really misunderstood you the first time. LOL..No
Your birds are pure not mutts. Lol
Sorry about that.
No, other folks here unfortunately have been misinformed about their birds, not you.
Matter of fact your boys look almost like mine. And there's nothing wrong with them. I also don't believe they are crossed either as they look all Cochin to me. If crossed they would look different. Not sure how to explain the difference until I see a cross/mutt.
Nope your birds are of pet/breeder quality in my opinion. However not show quality. Otherwise their nice but if want better type, you can work with them. I say take a look at Craig's birds (black Cochin bantam).
He has very typy birds that are of some today's top show quality that backyard breeders like me admire. If I can get his type on my birds I would be ecstatic. So that's what I'm trying to work on it vrs the Millie pattern. I'm pretty happy with the calico look as they are very pretty too.
So your on the right road with your birds. It just takes lots of work to get that "perfect" bird.
I have no intentions of showing, I'm just looking for Two very good Breeding quality Cochins to work with to possibly end up with a show quality. I'm not one who's into showing but I do sell eggs, so in order to do so, I want some good looking Cochins..I see why Mindylee disagrees about them being mutts, but it was this particular thread which I thought of when I mentioned the possibility of a d'uccle cross. The photo of the roo there is very close in type to several of the ones you shared photos of. I know that when breeding for pattern, many breeders cross they chickens to get the right plumage, with the risk of ruining the type. Mille Fleur genetics are very complex, enough so that I don't have a good grasp of them myself, and before I was better informed about type, I had though about breeding one of my cochin hens to a good mille fleur d'uccle roo just to get the colors right.
@mindylee so you know, I mean no disrespect and you do have a good point about these being pet/breeding quality(not for show) and that show birds can be bred out of lower quality through careful culling and selection. I also see that these could be pure cochins who simply arent typey.
To work with him are you giving him different women to try or working with the same hens and taken the kids and breeding back to him??
