Mille Cochin Info

So- thye offered me $50 for Rem. Tempted to take it but he is my man. If I take it I better hope Rafael comes in with type? He already is getting the red Rem has.

If I had someone offer me $50 for any of my roos, they'd be gone. Around here, I GIVE them away. I took a load of 19 roos to auction last night because no one on BYC or Craigslist wanted them. If the trend follows from the last auction, I will be lucky to get a $9 check out of ALL of them.

My dad always told me that you should always take what you could, when you could because you would not ever get a better offer. I beg to differ. I have gotten so many wonderful offspring from my old boys like Xavier and Schmoozle that I do not think my breeding program could have advanced as far as it has without them. And they are STILL in my breeding pens 3 years later. I would not sell either one of them, if I could help it.

Yeah you know it all depends. I wouldn't have taken any money for Prince, but he's gone now anyway, so.
& some birds you don't mind selling at all, (some of them you're glad to see go) and then there are birds that you wouldn't have minded hanging on to, but you're happy about where they went so you're ok with them leaving!

Thats a hard offer to pass up. Either way Rem has contributed greatly to your flock and you have the genes still present. Obviously that person is smitten with Rem so if it comes to it you know hes at a great place.

We just had a young man (15) come back last night and asked to purchase 2 of my boys. He has already decided to be farming and is starting to build his flock and other livestock for FFA projects. Because my Duke was SPOILED rotten you can hold out your arm and he will fly to it like a trained falcon and otherwise follows you around like a farm dog, and this young man thought that was awesome. So as sad as i am, i let them go as they were not going to be my main breeders, but now they will have a full harem of their own ladies, and may help with a place for rehoming those without the pattern or type i want in the future. On a happier note this then opens up another pen space here for some more Mille ladies too for Oz.

Oz obviously for me is a different story, like Nancy and Amy said there are just some that will never have a price.

She went up to $60 for him so I told her she has a new rooster. I never planned on selling him but it all just happened so fast. I plan on setting as many eggs from him as I can in the next week. I know he is going to good home so I hope she likes and appreciates him as much as I have. She has given me a new job though, finding a hen to go with him. That is going to be really hard. I'm thinking Daisy.

Hes so handsome I expect you will be sad to see him go. But at least hes going somewhere nice and will be appreciated. Its good you have lots of hia babies maybe you will get another rem!

I hatched out 3 millies and got 2 boys and 1 girl. I planned on getting rid of my dark boy, but I am smitten by both. Here are some pics of the roosters, and an older one of the pullet. They are 10 weeks old now.

To be honest, I don't think Rem was the best you could do. He's pretty, no doubt, but you have a lack of breast flowers issue just like I do. Rem wasn't going to help you improve the pattern at all. I didn't find his tail set appealing either. Plus he always looked long in the back. I am not sure if it was because of the pictures or if was him. I honestly think you made the right decision. In the end, it will better your flock.
