Mille Cochin Info

My silly hen is going broody but she has no eggs under her. I actually feel bad for her but I can't give her any fertile eggs right now and I'm hoping she will break from it on her own. I'm not interested in forcing her out of it since that seems unnatural to me... I'm just griping...

LOL!!! My girl just went through a broody phase and I couldn't give her any eggs either

Just let her sit until she was over it, making sure she was eating, drinking, getting up ect to stay healthy. I have tried to discourage her in he past, but she would just go broody again a few weeks later! Now the only discouragement she gets is the daily comment from me "you know there are no eggs in your nest so you don't have to sit there!" LOL

A few weeks of eggs is all I got after she was done caring for her last chick. It was almost three months without eggs from her and after three weeks I had gotten back to enjoying having a good supply but she seems to have dried up and is sitting on any nest or nest-like spot that she has access to. I have her in a run all day that has no nest boxes but there are big cubbies without bedding that will be turned into nest boxes and she keeps hunkering down in. Not even the amorous rooster is winning over.

YEP...when they are determined they will find anything to settle down in...and Roo?? What Roo? Poor boy just won't get any attention from her

They are so stubborn when they want to be momma's! Great when you have fertile eggs! But frustrating when you don't!

This roo!

She spends a little bit of time with him in the morning when I put him out, but the rest of the day she spends brooding, even when he climbs on top of her in her "nest".

He is a handsome guy! I wish I could have a Roo so I would have fertile eggs of my own to hatch...but I live in a no roo zone

Little chicks I have a pullet right now who is a twin to your hen. (my pullet is only about 5 months old).

OK any who I would love your thoughts on this little roughly 6 month old Cockerel. I am liking what I see so far. I posted pics of him previously i this thread. His breast is starting to get a bit of pattern at this point. He is missing the white mottling so far but I am think about keeping him to cross over some of my lighter hens though.
