I acquired my roo from Happy Chicken Mama who got his parents from Lynne (let me know who you are on BYC!)..got my pullets from tate(Ralph). I know you guys know who all of these people are.. tate has been involved in this project for 10 years. I am happy to have my start! Have joined the Yahoo group also.
I've been making Jubilee & blue Jubilee Orpingtons & am trying to sort out the males. I think I have some which appear to lack any columbian gene. These, I believe, having a predominantly black breast.
I know some of you get males which are heavily melanised & have black mottled breasts. Do you find that these particular males have a mostly black mottled breast but also have some colour on their breast or do they tend to be all black mottled with no colour? Does the colour get more with age?

I have 3 chicks I hatched from tate's eggs, but the pullets you got from him are gorgeous. I might have to make a trip up there to get a couple!
I have two black feathered birds. One which has a white chest, and one which is getting the regular mille fleur pattern on the chest. I'm a bad girl. I'm falling in love with the black/white ones personality even though I shouldn't cause he isn't up to standard for breeding and will probably have to go.
Then I have one getting perfect looking mille fleur.
Two that are the buff/orange and black. No white. Very dark.
One that is very dark black and orange. And has a little bit of white on the chest.
I'm hoping that they whiten more as they grow. Right now they are all very very dark. With only one showing typical Mille Fleur pattern.

Hey ~ Kelly!
So, WHERE'S THE PICTURES????
;-)
I can't wait to see your beautiful babies and see how they're growing and changing. I know that Josh said he had one pullet that was dark to start and got more white as she matured. I think it's typically the other way around but I haven't raised any chicks on my own yet so I'm just going by what others have said! We'll all be learning from YOU as well!
Kelsie, they change soooo much from here til maturity. DO NOT make any decisions for at least 4 months... maybe longer. You look like you have a really nice bunch.
Personally, I like the darker ones too. And, maybe you should keep one. sometimes the pretty red ones have two doses of the columbian gene which restrics black. You can tell by looking on the chest. It should be tri-color; buff/white and black. If there is no black, you may want to hold onto one of those darker boys to make up for that. He'll give more black speckling into your females... I think
