Mille Cochin Info

Seriously! The genotype on that hen has me fascinated!! If she was a DOG, she'd be a foundation female (it won't let me say the right word)

in somebody's kennel. I think you could almost build your entire Millie Fleur flock around her.
I'm about to say something, I'm afraid will get me yelled at, or boo-ed off of here, but I'm gonna jump out there and say it. Many of the birds I've observed don't actually display a true Millie Fleur color pattern. That is not to say that they aren't pretty, but they are not true Millie Fleur. Your little chick with the tips is the closest thing that I've seen to Millie Fleur. Well, it and that roo you have on your "Page" at the bottom. He actually looks like he displays the true Millie Fleur pattern of the d'Uccle only he's a cochin and not a bad one at that. Also, that little pullet at the far right of him is pretty close too for the hen color. Have you bred them to each other? I just wonder if the color would breed true?
You've got some of the most gorgeous birds.

I wish I could take credit for Tango, but I can't. She was bred by Tim Kerbo in OK. I'm very anxious to see the chicks develop. There is a pic of the sire on my BYC page.

i just recieved some eggs from the feb egg swap , a suprise of course , and when they arrived and i found out who my partner was , i asked what they were and they are mille cochin projects they are eggs from the 2nd generation so im wondering what they will look like the birds that layed the eggs were pretty

That's what I would have done. VERY PRETTY!!! and VERY hopeful. There's some nice, close Millie Fleur pattern there.
OH BOY!!

It will be interesting to see how those little bundles of joy mature. If the Millie Fleur pattern holds true or gets all BIG!!! and all over the place.
So we wait................

Easy for me to say.

Hey Lilcrow, My roo is beautiful but he is lacking black. I have seen some really nice mille looking roos recently ...got one coming in the mail in two weeks:) As for that hen, I always had a good feeling about her but her big problem was that her feathers were black edged in gold instead of gold with black. With her partridge looking chick, she has developed barring which is no where near mille fleur but the white tips are giving me something. I'll have to cross her back to a decent mille roo to see what happens... there's a lot of "let's see what happens" going on here in Msbearland. I keep feeling like one time Im going to pull the lever and see all 7's

I hear that that!
Have you ever done any studying of the genetic codes on how to "make" the different colors. I'm starting a project with Golden Cuckoo Marans (feather shanked) so I've been trying to track down some of these geneticists that log onto here from time to time, so that I can pick their brains. Come to find out, there are CODES for all of the different colors and patterns. Of course that doesn't have anything to do with the type. There's still all the years that go into improving the type with the color/pattern, but there is an actual genetic code for Millie Fleur.

Lilcrow, There's a ton of "let's see what happens" all over MFC land, not just with Msbear! Trying to get the correct color and pattern not only achieved but then stabilized and breeding true, and all the while maintaining good type, seems like the quest for the Holy Grail. The genetics are mind-boggling to me - just when you think you have even the smallest grasp of what is involved - it seems to slip thru your fingers.

I think even the experts are still learning more every day about how the thousands of different genes react with one another.
This is a link to Brian Reeders's site - it's a fairly easy and straightforward approach - good to read:

Erin, I am constantly referring back to your "MFC Progress" page - Thanx! and keep up the good work. It's a great resource. But I must apologize - I had never noticed your page of beautiful artwork

on the barnwood signs until yesterday. My mind starting racing with all the different signs I'd like to have made! I'm so jealous - that side of my brain just doesn't work! And where do you find the time, girl?
