I agree with you all on this. On reading and re reading all this fine genetics material I have still come to the conclusion that I will breed phenotype. There is so much back and forth about all the genes and the placements and how to get them there that I realize they won't show up if not there so I will breed pattern and type as best I can. It may take me longer but I am getting no where with the genetics on all these birds. I may get a few surprises but that has happened when I bred mammals and knowing their complete genetics, too.
As you said, 3 different ones could produce MF with 3 different codes.
Oh, thank you all for making me feel like I am not the only one that thinks along these lines.

Gail, here is little "Booby" aka Pocket Gopher. She's a doll in personality.
Not a speck of white on her...

...she was my only yellow-downer w/no black markings last season.

Rosemary, Maybe little Booby is a "Sleeper" - give her another molt and see how she looks. And she may surprise you and end up with the best conformation that you'll want to use.
Just soooo nice outside today, got a chance to get out in the garden beds and play in the mud! But I thought I'd get you some pics of Bolero - who seems to have fully integrated himself into the coop with everyone else. Be warned - remember I told you he loves my Columbian ladies!! But he did manage to get in some of the shots with Ginger and Nutmeg, who were thoroughly enjoying their dust baths!
Also got pics this morning of Luna & Bandit at 3 weeks.

They are great Erin ... getting so big. Do you think it is okay to put them outside for a while today (supposed to be 74 here today and no wind)? I will get some new pics today as well.
