I have heard that too... I will check it out. I have also heard that male embryos tend to be stronger than female ...I can understand this... so, that when there is an incubator error involving temp spikes or whatever, that the weaker embryos (females) will die leaving the males to survive. Rusty made me a new bator this year and it is huge and lovely but, definitely took some tweaking and getting used to before I started having really good hatches.

Meanwhile... boys everywhere!!!!

That makes sense, too. So now that you've got the bator bugs worked out, hopefully you'll start seeing more girls!

THANK YOU Lynne!

I need your (everyone's!) help here - I can/should only keep one of these roos. They both hatched in February - so both are at 4 months old now. They have the same sire and dam. Bandit (in the first pics), or Thumper (last pics). I think both will still have more chevrons developing on their chests, as I can still see more black down under the feathers. You can see their chick development on My Pages (Mille Fleur page).

1) Bandit looks more like his sire - I like the red hackles and tail, and he's got nice chest chevrons - and I hope the black down lurking behind them comes thru. But I think he may be longer in body, with a skinnier cush.
2) Originally, I was thinking that Thumper was going to be more Calico than MF, but he's starting to show some chevrons, and the more I look at him, I think he might have the better type. He seems to have the shorter body, with the fuller cush.

As I haven't grown out any MF's from chicks before, I'd really like to hear some opinions from those of you that have already grown some out.
Please be honest - I don't have to keep either if not good enough. My plan is to keep one to breed back to his mother, Tango, if that helps. Thanx!!

I wanted to show off some girls I got from Lynne. I was amazed at how sweet they are. (Thanks Lynne!) This breed/type is very exciting to me, I can't wait to get more. This weekend they will be leaving their hutch and joining my flock.

yeah, the birds I got from Lynne are the sweetest birds I've ever had. I can just walk up and grab them in the yard.

Coopa, if you are going for calico then Bandit is your man. He is just going to be a knock out. I love that white and buff.

If you're going for MF, and you want your birds to conform to the standard at some point, then you already know what Im gonna say

I think you should upgrade your roo. Get a nice BC or Mo to put with that awesome Tango girl. Get a clutch from that mating growing out and select a nice roo to put back to her and keep some girls to put back to him.

Thanx for the advice! I've got her in now with Bolero, one of Rosemary's roos who is out of Lynne's lines. So maybe I'll gt lucky with that pairing. He has very nice tri-color chest mottling, but also has the hackle-black gene, so we'll see what happens. I'm not sure how dominant the hackle-black is.

I don't have any BC or Mo. There is another MF roo out there I've had my eye on - I think he would be the perfect mate for her. Maybe I should go for him if I decide to get another roo. Just need to hunker down and decide how much patience I have to take a step back with a BC or Mo. But I totally understand what you're saying.

Gees, somebody needs to start a Roo Farm and offer Stud Service!

# 5 sure has the pattern goin' on!!!!! I agree, the type is lacking but perhaps bred to a gal with good type you might get a keeper. I'm still amazed at how they change as they mature. It's sad that we can't keep all the roos until they are at least 2 years old to see how they "really" will look.
