Mille Cochin Info

I don't know either. It is strange though. I don't know where else those chicks could have come from. Hum. I only have the two and they are absolutely identical. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on them and see what they do. Any thoughts on what color I should breed them to if I want to get more chicks like them??

Here is what I have to work with....

White Rooster

Blue Rooster

MF Rooster ( I also have his brother who looks similar, just lacking some of the red ).

MF Rooster ( I swear this guy has more and more color everytime I look at him ).

Strange mottledish rooster that is currently part of my "yard art" batchlor cochin program.

Another proud member of my yard art program. Strange Barred Something.

Buff Rooster who I am ashamed to say is also currently yard art

And last is my Blue Barred Rooster. I assume he would be the worst choice to breed them to.

Well, those are my boys. The good, the bad, and the UGLY!! None of them would work would they?? I don't suppose anyone knows of anyone out there that has a Wheaten Roo they would like to sell do they????

These are all lovely birds, and it pains me to say it, but I am going to have to bow out of this thread. It is going to remind me to much of the rooster we just lost today, and the dog I am going to have to take back to the shelter because of it. Congratulations to all of you who have such awesome birds.

You posted that link on the original thread too. For whatever reason, I can't open it. Dang it again.

Try this link. Once at CochinsRule, click on Cochins International at the left. Then, on the right of the screen, click on 2006 Eastern National. Hope that helps!!

So sorry to hear about your roo and your dog. That's a tough one on both counts. Hope you decide to stay with the MF's. I'm about to do some major flock reduction, including MF's, hopefully before the Brighton swap next month, so if you're interested in more Bantam Cochins, send me a PM.

I sent you a message and asked but what kind of dog is it and how old is it?? I only ask because I recently adopted a young Blue Heeler and have spent the past several months working with him on the important lesson of "we don't chase, attack, or kill chickens in this family!!" It has been a really long road but he has finally learned that balls, frisbies, and sticks are all exceptable things to chase while chickens, cats, ducks, geese, and guineas are not. Its a lot of work but we stayed on top of him ( spray bottle worked great ). We didn't allow him into the yard unsupervised and we always keep a six foot leash on him when he is out in the yard. He can go where he wants ( he is great at off leash commands now ) but that leash is there for those times he "gets into the zone" and slips a little. So far ( knock on wood ) we have not lost a single bird/cat. I know it hurts to loose a bird. Trust me, I am as attached to my guys as anyone so I understand what you are going through. However, as someone who has rescued my fair share of dogs, one of the things that pains me to no end is hearing about another dog going to a shelter. Has the dog had any kind of formal training?? Lack of training is the number one reason dogs end up at the shelter to begin with. Not to sound like a commercial but there are plenty of petstore chains that offer training plus plenty of private individuals who could help you with your dog. Quigley was a nightmare in the beginning and my husband really had his doubts that he would ever amount to much. He had already been passed between FOUR homes in as many months by the time I got him. With lots of time, determination, and consistancy he has turned into a model citizen. Obviously, I don't know the specifics about your dog but if you haven't at least put him through some form of basic training, you don't really know what kind of dog he could be. Maybe you have done that already. I just felt like I at least had to ask and share my story. Hopefully you can find it in your heart to give your guy another chance.

I am so sorry for your loss. I totally understand the pain. I do not get shelter dogs anymore because of it. Every shelter dog we've had has not worked out despite training efforts (very good efforts by the way in case someone might question that). Every purebred puppy we have purchased has worked out beautifully. I'm sure there are wonderful shelter dogs out there that people have adopted and loved and swear by them. Kudos to you for doing that. Everytime I mention to my neighbor that we are looking for a certain dog she is a walking add for the shelter yet she was just complaining about the dog she just got there. The shelter situation is very sad but I am tired of being made to feel guilty for not taking on the responsibility of someone elses problem or mistake. I appreciate buying and raising a dog that was responsibly bred for a reason. You pretty much know what you are getting. The shelter dogs are like a "box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get" I personally only like dark chocolate caramels. Everytime I get a box of mixed chocolates they all get a tiny bite out of it. I say, at least I tried! Buy like I said kudos to everyone that promotes the shelters or adopts one of those animals. It's great you give them a voice.

Ah, but this is the Mille Cochin Thread so I'm going to add I have some beautiful up and coming babes from Lynne (my first). Hoping to get pictures soon then I have to figure out how to put them on here. Everyone has such gorgeous MFC. I love these chickens. They have become my favorite.
