Alright, I have a question for you Mille experts.

I have these two cockerels from some Columbian Cochin eggs I bought and hatched this year. Obviously, these two aren't "pure" Silver Columbians, because their markings aren't right and they have a lot of "brown" leakage. The person I bought the eggs from also has Birchen, Partridge, Buff Columbian, Buff, Mottled, Mille Fleur, and mixed-color Cochins, so who knows what they really are genetically!

They're too pretty not to do anything with them, so I was wondering...could they possibly be used in a Mille project? I don't know, with the Silver base, but something else underneath it that could pop back out in a generation or two...

Whaddya think? They make great lawn ornaments, I just have an itch to DO something with them, you know?

Is Silver dominant to Red/Gold? If so, it will probably take more than one generation to get back to the MF Buff base.

I've never held back an MFC who began in this color...I'd usually hold the ones who started out rusty/ reddish/ yellow...those who started out with strong stripes seemed to get solid dark gray wings and I culled. But am pairing some well shaped birds now in specific matings (rather than turning all hens loose with a couple roos in a free for all!) Also taking close notes on down color from matings. I don't know that this pullet will grow to a proper mille fleur color as its not the mahogany or deep rusty red.
Ah well, all the more fun....i so enjoy these little birds! And taking 4 to my first show--Rocky Mtn Feather Fanciers this month

Hey Sackman! I received the Mille Fleur Cochin eggs today! All 16 made it just fine!! Thanks for the extras! Your packing was great! I am letting the eggs settle and plan on putting them in the bator tomorrow. I also liked that you wrote the hen's name on the egg who laid them. I will keep notes and let you know what I get.
