Mille Cochin Info

I chanced upon the Mille Fleur Cochin thread 2 months ago, and I fell in love with the birds colors, esp the males. So I ordered some eggs from a BYCer, and I managed to hatch 1 chick out of the lot. We had humidity problems, but this chick still came out.

He is most likely a male, because of his pronounced comb, and since he was the only Mille Fleur who made it, we call him Zeus, after the Greek God.

Zeus hatched on Christmas Eve, so he is 3 days old today. He is already eating well, sleeping, pooping, playing well. I put him in with 1 week old silkies and LF Cochins, and he was totally unfazed. He is such a bold boy, very cute and beautiful.

Zeus is on the extreme right of the photo, seen here with his 1 week older silkie/cochin companions.

I can't wait to see how gorgeous he's going to grow up to be. We are in love with his feisty cute butt. I hope he'll be a good roo too when he grows up.

She's on strike until you let her raise babies. You want eggs, you're gonna have to let her make some babies first!

Ugh! I feel the same way! It's been WEEKS!!! The fly in the ointment here is that my roo seems also to be on strike, otherwise I'd put her to work (NOT that I need more babies right now). No sense sitting on unfertilized eggs.

I would get her some fertile hatching eggs except there was one day she moved from one nest (with an egg she'd had for a couple days) to another. Don't want to chance that again.
I can't wait for Spring. In the meantime, I'm asking hubby to uild me a wire-bottom "broody cage". Between my Silkie and these 2 MFC's I'm in my 3rd month of fighting w/broodies over here!

Just thought I'd post some baby pics. These are the only 2 I grabbed for glam shots. I didn't have any helpers. I have 10 more mille babies!

Robin,

They are adorable. The first little one is a pullet & the chick in the second pic (is it the yellow chick?) is a cockerel. Can't wait to see pics of the other TEN~!

Yes, that's the little yellow one!!! They're not following your rules regarding wing color, are they? Yellow baby has a very big comb all of the sudden. If I can get my help to help me catch babies I'll post the other 10. Can't wait 'till I have a yard full of these full-grown. Beautiful!
