You did get that those are YOUR babies, right? I re-read my post and wasn't exactly clear that those are the Bantyman babies Millie hatched for me. Just making sure you get the credit... And thank BMan for us, too!

Yes, I know they are from my eggs but I do believe Miss Mille did all the work on her end. You know she is happy and does not care one iota that she did not lay those eggs. I am happy that she is happy!
And yes, they are from the roo that came from our own Bantyman here! That's why I call him Bantyman. I can keep up with where he came from.
He is putting out some nice babies.
And now he is in with 2 different hens.
The wind was blowing pretty hard but you can see the colors on them. Can't wait to see these kids!

A lot of them have a tendency to turn out like this. I am not sure if we will ever get past it.
I have some pretty interesting guys growing up right now and wonder just what they are going to look like when grown. I am not sure what genes need to be rearranged or introduced to change this in roos.
Just when I think I am going to have a really neat patterned one he molts and looks like our boys here. Not that I think it is so wrong but we will not be able to get boys like this into a show for MF pattern. As much as I try to study the genetics of it there just seems to be a piece missing or I haven't bred enough to get the correct one.
Did I just say I haven't bred enough???
Still, I have to be breeding them wrong somehow and need to find the right combination to get a roo that is more MF and not so red on top.
I would think so. I do not believe we would be able to call them MF and change how they look and still have them accepted.
However, it would be nice to get very consistent patterns on the roos and better color.
I feel I have a long way to go but it is fun in working with it. I keep saying I am going to get a pair of MF d'Uccles from my friend just so I can make sure I am working on the patterns and not just trying to keep it in my head. I do have a photo from Backyard Poultry magazine (June/July 08) that I look at to keep refreshing my mind with what I should be working towards. They have the red on their back but the pattern on the chest is gorgeous!
Lynn has the breed so she gets to look at them and breed for it with her Cochins. Lucky duck!
