This boy was from my brassy hackled black mottled female. Him and his brothers are growing in their hackle and saddle feathers and they're looking good. I was concerned I wasn't making much improvement at all in the pattern dept. until just about a week ago when these new feathers starting coming in and they are about 3 months old... so... more evidence of the necessity to let these birds mature before culling

Could someone help me define the Mille Fleur or Calico pattern? I don't have one, but it is confusing. Are Mille Fleur and Calico the same thing? Some birds are very dark - mahogany and black, while others appear much lighter, more buff and white. ?????

Mille Fleur in Cochins should look the same as it does in Miller Fleur D'uccles. Excellent pics of MF D'uccles are in the link below.

Basically, they (MF) are vermillion orange, with white spangled feather tips, and a black bar separating the white tip from the rest of the feather.

As MF's in Cochins are still considered a project, basically anything that doesn't feather out with the proper Mille Fleur plummage pattern is considered a Calico. Some are two-toned, with no black barring, and some are tri-colored, but don't have the correct pattern.​

It's the work of the universe to make sure that supply and demand is spread out all over the US. In MFC, anyway.
