Mille Cochin Info

I use a pair of Doggie nail trimmers (White's is the brand) and trim a little off each side to shorten it and smooth it out with an emery board (nail file).

I love them at that age. They look like minatures, haven't gone thru the gangly teen-age stage yet. Not that Cochins are ever gangly, just less round.

I went to the APA show in Shawnee yesterday. There weren't many bantam Cochins, just Blacks and Whites. But I could just imagine them with Mille Fleur chevrons and am extra determined to improve the Millie's type.

This may have been brought up earlier in the thread, Ive only looked at the first few pages and I apologize if I'm making you all repeat yourselves. Does anyone have LF in the Mille or Calico color? I think it would be very impressive on the standard Cochins. Thanks in advance!

I have wanted to work on this project, but I wanted to use mottle LF Cochins (they do exist, lol), and have not been able to find a breeder willing to sell me stock or eggs. Too bad, huh?

I do have fantastic Mille Bantams, though.

My color is coming along but I am still struggling with type. I swear! I just can't get the type to stay on my MFC girls!

I have 2 roos that have color that I want but only one looks like he will have the type. This is the worst one.

This one below is not one of mine. It is one of the few that hatched from Nancy's eggs before she sold her MFC flocks. I am watching her to see if she develops into a nice enough girl to keep.

Stephanie,
I think he needs a much shorter back to work well in a breeding program. If that is all you have to work with he would be fine but he is built much too long to make outstanding chicks. I am sure you have a lot more in your coop that are better than this guy. I personally would not use him though he has some very nice points about him. I am just first and foremost looking at length of back on my birds and if I have a fella that has one like what your photo shows then I sell him into a pet home.
He obviously comes from some good parents but you want to be able to only put one of two fingers at most on the back and have the neck touching one side of your fingers and the tail on the other. If you see the ski slope look then cull.

But that is only my 2 cents worth. Others may give you different opinions and advice.
