Welcome, Beth!
This is a fun project and the birds are always so pretty to work with. Your little group looks very pretty. As you work with them and breed you will find the color and pattern will vary a lot but it is fascinating. I have found pattern easy to get and was able to obtain it in 2 generations but the type was not good so I breed for type and let pattern fall into place. Focus on type, combine the birds that fit together well (as in what one lacks and another is strong in should be bred together) and are carrying the right color and pattern genes and it will come together. It may not be as soon as we would like but it will get here and we hope to get them accepted into the standard.
Thanks,
I am still learning about the Cochin type and how to recognize the type I want. It is interesting to see the color change. Cockrel #2 is already showing more red on his wings. I love the way they run to meet me when I go to the pen.
Besides being the correct Cochin type, what color pattern are most people are striving for?
Beth
