I had a question about my mille fleur d'uccle rooster. I’ve heard that their true colors don’t show up until after their first molt, but is there any indication of what their color will be like before that. I’ve never shown chickens before and was wondering what chance I would have in a show (a small local fair show) with this guy. I’m also planning on breeding him with my hens how good are they as far as the breed standard goes. Any opinions are appreciated. They’re barely three months old.

how old are they,is the first one the roo? I think you might have hens there, from what I can see the feathers above the tail are round not pointy

He's a cute little guy. I know nothing about showing them, I am new to them myself. I was told by the breeder I got them from that the true coloring won't show until about 5-7 months. Our guy is about 3 months and he changes daily, it seems.
ETA: Yes the first is a roo and 3&4 look to be pullet!

Thanks for the reply and the info, I might show him at our local fair we live in a real small town so theres not many chickens entered, so maybe he'd have a chance. It would be fun and nice to win something.

It took a long time for my two girls to show their true colors and get their spots. But it happened before they were a year old, the cute little things! You'll be amazed at how different yours looks in a few months.

I talked to a judge at a local show about them and he said he likes to see a white spangle on the tip of all of the feathers, nice and clean feathering on the legs and feet, and a nice, straight comb.

Thanks, good stuff to know. I’m soaking it in like a sponge today. Mine certainly don’t have white on the tip of every feather but maybe by the end of August they’ll look a little more showy. But I might enter my roo anyway no one around here has ever seen or heard of d’uccle before and when they see my little roo they always comment on how pretty he is.
