mine aren't friendly :(

Since mine were day old chicks I call them, "hey chickie chickie". They ran from me until I put them in the coop and run at 2 weeks old. I introduced them to meal worms, garden worms, grubs, and crickets at 3 weeks old. If I found something while I was working in the garden, I would take it into the run and call,"Hey chickie chickie". Now every time I go near the run they come after me. If I go inside they are all over me. Some are still a little stand-offish, but they will all eat out of my hand.
I too raise my birds for meat and eggs, but I treat them as well as I can while they're in my care. Ill talk to them, feed them stuff they really like and make them feel safe. Content happy animals produce a higher grade product.

My 8 BR's now will come running to me in their yard off the coop. I'm not baiting with food either. They are 7 weeks old. When they were chicks they weren't too interested in me. I spend a limited amount time in the yard with them every day. Only now there are about half of them that let me pet them, pick them up or they take the notion to fly hop on my shoulder when I am kneeling down. Give it some time, they'll come around. For 'mistakes' these BR's are great. Getting some Buff chicks in 2 wks, wonder how they will compare.

My 9 EE's and 2 BO's are 7 weeks old, and they know I bring the treats! If you want them to like you, try scrambled egg. I don't try to pick mine up or loom over them tho. I sit in a lawn chair in their run and they use me for a perch and then they will let me pet them.

I have 12 chicks and mine will all come to me if I'm offering them food, but as of right now they don't care much to be held. the boys will let me pet their wattles and combs though :)

mine used to be very unfriendly but now at 6 weeks old they will eat out of my hand and some even jump up on me. they became more friendly after I moved them outside and began giving more treats :)

Well the buffs are a little older now and Fiesty Roo is definitely living up to his name, whenever I go in the run he will walk around me kind of sideways, head downward, and making a weird cluck sound at me. No more petting him, he bites!!!!!! LOL. Wilma use to be the lovey one wanting held and petted but now that she is older, she will definitely let you know to leave her be when she does not want to be messed with, another biter she is! Fred Roo and Barney Roo will let you pet them and hold but their not as pushy about wanting attention as the girls are. I guess chickens have personalities too. The Borg chickens ( 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 ----- aka Ideal 236 chickens ) have mellowed down a lot more than I thought they would. The buffs now get along with them and they greet me at the gate and take treats out of my hand but still no petting or holding the Borg chickens. My daughters little rescued chick I doubt I will ever be able to integrate it with the others as it is about the size of a robin and has seemed to stop growing but will let you hold her and such. Poor thing will be lonley once her cage mate gets to big to leave in with her. I have no clue what she is but she is tiny, my mom had a cockatiel that looked about Squeeks size.

Yeah my 3 week old chicks run from us too-- they are Jersey Giants, but we have had them only 3 days -- they do come running when I bring a bowl of treats but cautiously.... I figure they will gentle as we have them longer....
