mini-rant - I should be the first to be paid

Quote:
I understand that a lot of bills come due on the 1st, but, if he wants to alter a payment schedule, then why not the rent on his 1 bedroom apartment in the trendy part of town which costs more than I pay for a full 6 bedroom house?

I should point out that I did not take that knowledge into consideration when I made my decision. I pay my bills when they come due and in order to do this, I need to be paid on time. I actually stagger my bills, but by being paid on the 1st, I know that the money is there to cover the bills through the month.

I get paid up front - ie fees for June daycare are due June 1. I also charge a 50% deposit applicable to the final month's fees. This way, I don't get stuck doing child care for free.

I understand... and i dont blame you a bit. We all need our paychecks on time!

I was just giving an idea why he maybe asked you to change it to the 15th...thats all.

I am only asking for post dated cheques dated the 1st of the month - my other family gives me 3 at a time, so they will give me 3 this month dated July 1, Aug 1 and Sept 1. Then in Sept, they will give me another 3 dated Oct 1, Nov 1 and Dec 1.

What do you charge for daycare out west? Here for a daycare facility it ranges from $125-200 (per week) depending on the age of the child

I charged 25 a day when I was doing it.

(that is what I charged yesterday for a drop in also)

My place is a little cheaper than most in the Phx area, but:

Infants are ~$30 a day
Toddlers are ~$28 a day
Preschoolers ~$26 a day
School kids are super cheap, depending on how long they are at day care.

I agree with Redhen, this could be the case!!!

It likely is, but my point is that the daycare provider is not the bill you rearrange. You rearrange your rent, or your car payment etc.

I'm a landlord and there is no way my tenants get to pay when they want, if they want to pay on the 15th every month, then there is a late fee of $5 on the second and a dollar a day after (rent + $5+($1x12)= rent +$17), and after the third month there is a record of late payments and they are "asked to leave".

Good for you, if you need to be paid on the 1st, then the first it is, and you have it easier then I would, you can just not accept their child. I'm sure the court would love to hear that dad doesn't pay-up on time.

I'm not sure that paying daycare would be my number one priority.

Important, yes. But number one? No.

Rent, food, electric all rank pretty tall.

My daughter was only in a daycare one time, for a few hours, during
my sisters funeral. Daycare was a friend...no charge thing. So we don't
use daycare.

That being said, I also realize that many people do use daycare and it
desperately to enable them to work. And that's well and good.

Yes, I would think it prudent to allow the parent(s) to choose the 1st or 15th
to pay. Whatever works best for them. (I used to have a job that paid once
a month on the 15th.)

How bad would it really destroy your world to be paid on the 15th?

Still, I see problems coming with this child. You have two people responsible
for paying the same bill. Sooner or later that won't work. Let the parents work
it out between the two of them which single one is to pay you for your service.
They can pay each other or whatever. But one and ONLY one should be liable
to pay you.

But yes, you do deserve to be paid for your service in a timely manner. No post dated
checks, no I.O.U.'s.

So, I hope you don't mind me getting a little off topic here, but I have a question. I am due with my first child in August and need to find a daycare provider. Where do I look to find someone that will watch an infant in the home vs a true daycare facility (most of which don't take them until they're 1 yr old)? Just wondering if there's a site I can look on or anything. I don't have any friends with young kids, so word of mouth doesn't really help me out.

Why not prorate his bill from the 1st to the 15th, then the 15th through the 15th there after. You would still be getting your money upfront and he can pay when he needs to.
