We finally finished harvest up here.
Good news, the girlfriend tonight has asked me if we can get more chickens! She wasnt all for the idea at the beggining but now she wants more. Uffda what have I done.

I was wondering if you were finishing up soon. get it all out alright?

also, isnt it great when your significant other gets excited about chickens too? we only had 17 layers plus broilers when my DW got hooked and now we have 55 layers :)

Still trying to figure out if I can sell her on trying out a couple guineas from the guy next town over. They might just show up haha

I just want to share this picture, it was a tender moment, my DW almost cried.

We sat with the CX's tonight for chicken TV, as the others are all locked up because of the predator and my moving them to their winter coops.

The BBW ( big bird) was out most the day I put him with the CX's so he would not get picked on while he recovers, He stayed near the waterer all day ( the homemade waterer out of the barrels). He would pick a little at food and drink but did not wander far. He looks better tonight than he did this morning. While we were watching them Big Bird sat down and just kind of stared at us. This little CX walked over looked at Big bird and sat down right next to him. Then stared at him. It was so cute and my DW got it on her IPhone. Sorry the picture is so bad, but heck it was her phone not a camera.

Good to have you back!!

When I was building my coop the DW couldn't figure out why I would be doing all that. Now she wants more chickens. I knew that would happen. She is a sucker for animals.

This just makes my heart swell. Look at that. I also can't get over the difference in weeds there. They are really mowing down their little pasture aren't they?! Welcome Lynn. Just chooks here for me. Holm25 is who you want to talk to about ducks if you want to pm him what your looking for. Canned 3 quarts of stewed tomatoes from extra patio tomato plants. That will be nice to have later this winter. Also cleaned both kids' rooms and took out small clothes. Sold some underarmour and whatnot on a web based selling forum for our area. The stuff sold in under an hour! Crazy. And I love it!

BC that is not the same area I originally put them into, This is adjacent to that.

I put them in the original area in the morning, they go out the back door of the tractor/brooder to that area. Ethel, the Mean hen that chased the dog and their babies live in that area also. it is really gotten beaten down. This is an area I normally mow of weeds and sandburs. I stopped mowing it a few weeks ago to give the weeds a chance to grow. I let the CX's free range this area, by letting them out the front door. The love to eat the seeds off the short ragweed and run and chase bugs here. Because of whatever is taking my birds I can only let them out when I or the dogs are with them. ( yeah, I trust my dogs enough to let them be with the chicks, someday that could bite me, I know)

Also I like them there because of the big waterer 68 CXs go through a LOT of water in a day.

Blanchranch one of those turkeys has your name on it. You get first choice, as you're the first to ask. I might try to talk you into Big bird if I can keep from giving him medication. Right now I have just separated him and am giving him Probiotics and Vinegar. I will not sell a bird if I have to give it meds. (not counting deworming hens).

But if you don't want him because he was sick I understand, I am just worried DW and I might have trouble eating him as we have gotten too close to him. It is her fault, I told her not to name him!
