Minnesota!

Sounds like everyone is frustrated with the weather. Being surrounded by swamp, we suddenly have more bugs with the heat and rain than we have had all summer.

I am afraid to Google fly strike.

Sorry to hear about Big Bird.

I'm enjoying my goats. My fluffy white long haired chihuahua loves rolling in goat pee saturated hay. The goats try to play with the chickens and with the chihuahua.

Butchered the 3 roosters. They were ganging up on my favorite hen and I thought they might kill her. She took to hiding under things in such tight spaces I thought she would cook to death in the heat. We are roasting a rooster today and after watching him abuse the hen I will have zero problems eating the meat. None. All the hens are are more at ease now.

Sorry to read about the birds losses. Shade of good quality is essential as well as air flow. Cooped up in this weather can be a double whammy.
The humidity has been exceptionally high along with temps and that causes a doubling effect.
In areas of the South with low humidity it is a different situation than we have here.

Too bad with the losses of birds! The heat and humidity it really taking its toll here. The chickens just are not tolerating it well. The few ducks I have left on the other hand are LOVING all the rain. We have huge lakes all over the yard they are swimming in. They are too funny! We have so much water here the ground can't hold anymore. Half of my garden is standing water. I am considering getting a pump to get some of it out. I can't bear the thought of all my hard work going down the drain to standing water. Ugh the thought of rotten potatoes!!!!

BlanchRanch You are right up here in my neck of the woods!! Dang it all! We could have coffee'd in Virginia. Pooh!

LaLa thanks for your informative post. Really helpful. Sometimes it is hard to sort through all the info on BYC. Helpful to talk to people I trust and what you use. I value the info here on our MN thread so much more than others.

I was at a wedding yesterday and decided I would try a few of these beers you all are chatting about all the time. Um Yeah I will stick with my long islands. :)

The storm is just hitting here now.

I had a terrible time putting the Turkeys away. They did not want to go in early.

I got all but 4 guineas back in, but it was a choice of myself and my DW getting wet or them taking their chances outside and maybe getting killed. We choose to let them die!

just starting to rain.....severe weather watches but, .....promises of a cooler tomorrow.

I let the chickens run around til about 10, it started heating up so I called them back to the run. Those dense pines keep it cooler....

I didn't get very far on the wood shed - it was so hot. got all the misc. posts and 4x4's and stuff hauled out and put in one spot. got everything measured so I know what i've got, now to design the wood shed around what is here. Cluckies, you are an inspiration with your run building!
