here comes round 3 for us today! been trying to get the mowing done between rain showers


I found an egg in the yard today (and have several times before) is this a case of the hen being too far from the coop when the egg starts coming and then not making it back in time?

just starting to rain.....severe weather watches but, .....promises of a cooler tomorrow.

I let the chickens run around til about 10, it started heating up so I called them back to the run. Those dense pines keep it cooler....

I didn't get very far on the wood shed - it was so hot. got all the misc. posts and 4x4's and stuff hauled out and put in one spot. got everything measured so I know what i've got, now to design the wood shed around what is here. Cluckies, you are an inspiration with your run building!

(I think Coffe is the inspiration!) However, I was out all day! (It was so stinkin' hot), I am like klop klop, looked like I took a shower when I didn't. (I think it was Klop Klop who said that) Just made it in before it started raining about 7:30 or so. I really finally feel I made some progress. All hardware cloth up but for 4 panels, and the eves. Hopefully I'll be able to get that done tomorrow. It is tedious work putting that stuff up! I still have my thumb though!

I will say that I thought the rain would be from the west, not the north, i'm sure I have a huge mess to clean up in the coop tomorrow, I left one of the north windows open partway as it was so hot in there... going to check on them right now and see what I'm in for tomorrow...

yep that was me. Today was a '5 changes of clothes' day. I literally had to change clothes 5 times.... i wont let the heat keep me down while i am working!

Funny! I just wore my clothes wet, like I jumped in the pool, but since I didn't go inside even once (just got water from the hose), I just stayed in the same stinky wet clothes. No one was out there with me thank goodness, the smell, well, yes, terrible. (don't worry, took a shower when I came in) Weird, didn't have to go to the bathroom even once, must have sweated it all out!

On the bright side, my north window must have been closed just enough (it was at a 45) no water was in the hen house! another woot woot! for the day!

Funny! I just wore my clothes wet, like I jumped in the pool, but since I didn't go inside even once (just got water from the hose), I just stayed in the same stinky wet clothes. DW likes it when i change clothes when i come in for breaks/lunch etc. She does most of the laundry so i'm ok with it if she is.

she made a comment about 'getting my moneys worth' out of today's changes of clothes as she dumped my sopping we pile of clothes into he washer haha

we cooked and canned apple butter today so the chickens were thoroughly enjoying the apple leavings in the shade between the storms

No, she is just lazy.
It isn't like when you have a case of diarrhea and can't make it back, they can feel them coming for a while before they lay, I think. LOL!

Make your own ACV!!! Look it up! You can make your own with those peels and cores, and then use it for your birds all winter if you make enough. That is what I am planning to do this year with some of the fallen apples, which we have a ton more apples than we will ever eat or use up, and we haven't a storage place for them beyond the fall.


I had someone come out and get 3 pullets today. Of course, it was raining, so I got a little wet getting them out and ready. Then I did chores and got more wet. I came in soaked except my hair, cuz I do wear a hat I am not going to complain about the cooler weather! I know when it drops to zero, I am going to not complain too much because we have weeks like this to compare to. I can always dress warmer!

Thats why Minnesotans are the toughest around we experience extremes on both ends of the thermometer. Seriously we can get 100° plus to -50° Most people dont realize how crazy that really is.
