Minnesota!

I just wanted to come over and say hello from ND. Not much action around on the ND thread that I can find.

I have only had my chickens for a year. We've got 9 hens and 1 rooster and adding quite a few more this year. We have 6 chicks about a week old now, and 20 or so being hatched with a school project. I am also going to attempt my own incubator hatch around the 15th. (whenever my eggs arrive!)

So Hi !

Hello, LogHouseMom, and to everyone here! So Sorry I haven't posted for so long. I was wondering with all this chicken buying talk, If anyone knows about the chicken swap in blackberry? over by grand rapids? I saw an add in the paper for it. May 25th. Then there is the carlton county swap April 27th. any feedback??

BBP -
Do you have any Call ducklings?  If so, what varieties?

As for that $60 for a pair, the price wouldn't be high if they were of show quality.  If the color was off though, that would be something to consider.  What color were they?
They were Blue with alot of red on the back and hackles, the hen too. The Show Quality Black ones went for $30.00 a peice, I only had wnought for 25.00 each so I lost that bid. The chicks that I got from you are growing like weeds and have started to feather out. The odd ball chick looks like possibly a black orp or a minorca, not usre yet. Either way it will be added to my layer pen unless it is a rooster.

ugg... I was just outside and I found my dark brahma rooster as a bloody mess. He got in a fight with the cochin cross rooster. His face is bloody, hot, and swollen and his beak is cracked in multiple places. He wouldn't even eat his favorite treat, cheese. He looks pitiful... I really hope he recovers.

Does anyone want a dark brahma/blue cochin cross rooster? He's very friendly towards people. I could also give away some hens to go with him because I need him gone ASAP.

Minniechickmama - I had 5 call ducks hatch in the last couple of days. I have 2 gray and 3 blue fawn available. My pastel hen hasn't started laying yet. I had a friend pick her up from a breeder in Southern MN and I have no idea how old she is. Hope she lays soon, I love pastels.

BlackBrookPoultry, I notice that you have Barnvelders in your breeds list. Would you tell me what you can about them? Docile or not, good layers, anything that stands out to you about them? Where did you acquire them originally and it is a breed you would recommend?

I actually only have the one Barnevelder hen left. Compared to my other breeds she is not friendly at all. She is the least friendly of all my birds. But she does lay about 5 eggs a week and they are large and a nice, dark color. If she wasn't so pretty, I would get rid of her. I got her from someone here on BYC, but I can't remember who.

Thanks. I am mostly looking for Snowies, but I wouldn't mind getting some Pastels. I also love the Buff and Butterscotch.
I will keep you in mind once it warms up a bit more. I am kind of full on ducks at the moment.
Thanks.
