Minnesota!

Before I settle down for the night and catch up on all the ready on BYC MN I figured I would share.. When I left Ralphies I not only left with 4 beautiful freezer birds I also brought home 4 carcasses that were already cut up, some livers, hearts and gizzards. So today after letting it all rest I froze the whole birds and boiled all the carcasses and picked all the meat off for soup and The rest I will let the chickens picked through, I made puppy pate out of the liver gizzards and hearts. My little dogs will love it since they have no teeth, they are getting pretty old... I'm going to make chicken and wild rice soup with egg dumplings and take it to the Retirement community that my mom and dad live at.

I like all the pup pup talk. I personally would never own a lab. I have never met one with any brains and they are socially obnoxious in the dog world. My DS Aussie can't stand labs; I thought it was just him, but there was a whole article that it is fairly common in herding dogs to dislike good natured bobble headed fools. As for small dogs, snappy & yippy is the fault of the owner. Most of these dogs are just plain scared because the rest of the world is bigger then they are & the owner is doing nothing to make them feel secure so it's a case of I'll get you before you get me. When I met DH he has a toy poodle, she took to me &,even though I never figured I was a little dog person, she developed manner & stopped being yippy when she knew I was there for her & not just let people grab/pet her because she was little & cute. I'm still a herding dog person, LOVE my Aussies, and if there ever is a Belgium Tervuren needing rescue I'm your gal. Herding dogs are so fun to train, and easy.

I never thought of using the bags for that! They area pain in the butt. now I will have a purpose for them.

What do you consider "acceptable losses" when free ranging? I have losses and they seem high, but am willing to pay the price, at this point. My DW and I were talking about it last night. We would like 30 hens in the layer coop, we have 15 now with just 4 replacements coming up. We half jokingly said we will have to keep 60 chicks to winter 30 hens next year.

I do not consider my legbars or the Sussex as layers. They are my breeders and to be perfectly honest, the legbars are crappy layers. regardless of what they say on the creamette threads. They are just eye candy and they do a great job at that! However, one of my upcoming poults is an EE creamette cross. I am hoping for good laying and blue eggs out of her.

Your Sussex will be good layers, & sweeties. The Creamer is settling down. I went out there today with a few treats & spent about 5-10mins with him. He wouldn't take anything from my hand yet but he did tolerate being touched a little. Bribery works well for a bit.

I am glad to hear that. I have not spend much time with the creamers. We spent last night chicken TV hour with the Sussex and Junior, we split our time. The Sussex are so friendly. I gave them oats and lucky charms for a treat today. They preferred the lucky charms.

When I looked up on them most places said they were friendly and pets, no one mentioned great layers, so now I am twice as happy!

Aussie I have one for you to train at work then. As much as you are an Aussie girl I am a Labrador girl. A co worker brings his to the office once in a while and that SOB hates me and will growl and nipp you in the A**. He has already bit a contractor that was visiting with the owner and also bit my boss in the A**. My coworker now keeps a shock collar on it. So the next time he came after me coworker put some current through him. Now the dog is scared to death of me. I realize these are socializing issues, but I beg to differ on your statement for my own personal experience. I will never be afraid of walking into a yard with Labradors and golden retrievers. Walking into a yard with shepherds...well I'll be sure to find a stick right away and it won't be for fetch. My humble opinion only.

T - square.....

Is he perty cyrus? Some of them are pretty neat looking...not looking at my coop of course. But of the wild dogs....I like seeing Foxes.

Raining, wind, colder.

MEA weekend coming up. The people with the teeny tiny cabin next door come up this weekend. And they sit in their car and steal my wi-fi. Trying to get a password put on it after 8 years has been impossible. Maybe I should just shop for a new router right now...get that sucker put on before they get up here. They only come up on MEA. Not Memorial, Not the 4th...just MEA. They are sorta nice but I don't like that they are taking my speed with out even asking.

I'm going to stalk holm's page to see if I can find that picture.
That is sad that they would steal your internet, terrible.

Labra-doodle would take away another redneck point. That and the Peruvian coffee is going to weedle you right out of redneck status I do believe.

(I also need to quit posting pictures of my yard apparently)

But seriously. If I had $1200 I would get a labradoodle. They looks so neat. Seriously. Everyone I've encountered...I've really liked. Is that wrong of me?

When I was bringing my puppie to obedience class, there was a lady with a rescued labradoodle, cutest. thing. ever. Looked like a stuffed teddy bear. and he worked it. he'd lay down and flop his head so his ear flopped over, just like a stuffed animal, so cute!

I have an australian shepherd as well. I've had labs before as well. I've loved many dogs in my life, labs and poodles included, but this little aussie has my heart. I think you are right, that puppy needs to be trained, sounds like he is trying to herd you by nipping, which shouldn't be allowed at all. i'd tell the dude to leave his ill mannered dog at home. any dog can be terrible if the owner does not train them well. or if they are just psycho. I've got a rescue american eskimo mix. she is terrible. will never, ever get one again. cute as a button, terrible temperment.
