Good work Holm. Great way to farm. You will be an expert farmer when you become an adult.

I thought this was cute... Meredith hasn't wanted anything to do with her chicks since they were 4 weeks old, she'll chase them for even looking at her. Well tonight I let the "kids" out of the pasture to free range with the big girls and they were following her pretty closely, and she let them! She's actually been sleeping on their roost with them the past few nights too. She's going through a pretty good molt so I think she's extra sensitive and doesn't want to roost next to anybody who might peck at her.
That's Meredith at the top of the photo and her four "babies". They're 22 weeks now, so not really babies anymore.

Nice pics.
I guess families who peck together steck together!! ;-)
Conrad and Lucile hanging out
Nice pictures. That is a great looking group.

From the game camera last night. Coyote or Wolf?
Here are the track prints. It was cold last night so the ground was pretty solid.
Can't get anymore wolf then that. What to they want? An autopsy report?

So far the people i have meet from BYC MN are wonderful,, since my husband died i found that i have been hiding in this shell and since ive had chickens they have been very therapeutic.. and being here on BYC MN and meeting a few of you has been good for my spirit..Thank You...
So glad you are beginning to heal. I can not even imagine such a tragic loss.

I found my roosters looked like yours but my hens did not have as pretty and varied colors. I had kept a rainbow rooster last year but he died over winter, before breeding season. He was a good rooster. It seems every time I have a bird I really want to live, it dies.

Luckily for me I have enough birds I am said and disappointed when one dies, but it is not like a pet dying. Or Maybe it is I grew up on a farm and know farm animals die or are eaten.

BTW mine came from hoover too.
Ralphie, what you experience is called Murphy's Law of Animal Husbandry, which is basically, "Anything bad that happens to your animals will always happen to your best or favorite." It happens with dogs too, as you have apparently experience with the one you want to breed. It is a terrible terrible law and someone needs to change it! I vote you to take that one up with Congress!

If it doesn't arrive in a timely matter take the issue up with USPS and the government. I assumed it would be like sending a letter to Santa and addressed it:

To: DuluthRalphie
Somewhere up north
Well, Klop, you spelt it wrong! It is Somewhere up Nort!

Makes sense. What is a chicken whose fate is undecided? ;-)
A feed waster?

Her ear today. I've had her on antibiotics now for 4 days. It still doesn't look good but it looks better doesn't look like it will exsplode and it looks like it is scabing.. I think she wants to get back with her friends ...

Last night I was busy. there were 345 posts in two hours.

Tonight, my wife has gone away, I have nothing to do, and not one of you can post 10-20 times? Why?

I have been sitting here waiting for someone to post, so I have someone to talk to. I have ran out of lives on Alphabetty. I am bored with candy crush.

No one has called for any of my services, not including those that want free dating advice.......

Anyways POST!!

Ty have a great night.
I must confess, I am a popper and squeezer. I would be pulling that scab off and clearing the inside of the ear canal until it stopped being nasty. My guess is even if it is looking better, that probably is full of nasty smelling cheese. Just don't pour any peroxide in it, whatever you do.

We finished up our wood chopping and stacking tonight. Just in time to cut down a tree that is cracked and about to topple. It never ends does it!?

I was given 100 pounds of apples today. I guess I will be processing and baking apples the next couple of days.

In chicken news: I moved 12 juvenile pullets over to the hen house. They are doing wonderful in there. They older ones made sure they knew where in the pecking order they were and since the first afternoon no scuffles. They are going in the pop door and roosting right along with the older ones. WHEW. I still have 6 left in the juvie box. Not sure if I want to put them in the hen house or not. 4 ees and 2 polish. One of the polish is at the bottom of the juvie pecking order so I know she doesn't stand a chance with the big girls. I think I will put the 3 polish I have all together in one smaller section of the main coop and they can just be in there. I can give them a bucket or crate for a nest box and they can just be the 3 amigos.

This is the photo I entered.

This is just lovely! so sweet! beautiful girl! and the ducklings are cute as ever.
So I have had some exciting happenings over here. We have ourselves a 2.5 week old calf!! Yes, I know pictures are in order and they will be coming soon.
I have been trying to learn up on what I can on calves (@holm25 give me some pointers here!!) I am reading up on the internet and calling places and shopping in feed stores asking tons of questions which I am sure are stupid newbie questions. But a girl has to start somewhere.
I am warming milk and feeding him a bottle. When did it start getting dark so dang early?!
Any way just thought I would share why I was M.I.A. on all the posts these last few days. Oh and we named him Norman. He is a Angus/Jersey cross. Black with the cutest wet nose ever!
Congrats on norman, love it!
very neat Thank You KlopKlop... now is there a way i can see more then 4 post per page???
Weire, I see many posts, maybe 10? weird.

Ok, everyone, please send me thoughts of patience - I'm heading out this mornign to pick up my mother, bless her heart. She's 88, independent as hell, and cantankerous too.

She has some trouble walking, very teetery. But if you are so rude and ignorant as to offer her a hand, you will get a tongue lashing. Its quite the experience to take her anywhere because the minute she gets out of the car or she is in a parking lot, she is taking her cane and whacking you if you get to close. Other people, though, they see her and literally come running across the parking lot to offer a hand because they just know she is going to be flat out on the pavement in 30 seconds. She lurches side to side, and it is like watching a tree you are cutting down - that moment when it kind of sits there before it heads to the ground. ANd they give you a look that clearly says "what kind of low-life slob are you that you let this poor lady try to make her way alone?"

Of course, she is sweet and gracious to them. If you know what borderline personality disorder is, then you can feel my pain! That's my mom.
Hahaha! She sounds wonderful!

Makes sense. What is a chicken whose fate is undecided? ;-)

I also bought this since it seems to be highly recommended by so many on BYC ,, didn't realize the bottle was so big 16.9 fl oz not sure I will use it all before it expires 8/2018 I will have to read up more on it.. Any recommendations ??
I would love to buy some of it from you, i've been going to post and see if anyone would want to split a bottle, or let me buy some of theirs, let me know, i'm totally interested! I also would never be able to use up a bottle that size before it expired. and it is so expensive!

You do understand that if we all learn to use the "multi" function, then we will have fewer posts, therefore removing our thread from kicking butt against the Pet house duck in a diaper threads.

Well, I did say I wouldn't be on until tonight, but let me tell you all about my day.....

I had a doctor's appointment this morning to try to identify this abdominal pain I have had the last two months. This is an odd one, so she set me up with a CT on Monday. I don't think it is terribly serious, but may need surgery, and THAT will really not be good. If I have abdominal surgery, then recovery is going to put an end to all the work I need to do to get ready for winter and will mean someone had to help me do chores every day. Probably why I waited so long to go in. Folks, I am not going to get too worried about this, so I hope you all don't either. When I say surgery, it is possibly just my appendix starting to 'go out'.

THEN...I picked up DS from school (it was an early release day). We went to Kwik Trip to gas up and get a car wash where a flock of starlings or something decided my dark blue van would look better with white dots. I go to the car wash, get done in the wash mode and I am pulling ahead to the blowers, inching my way through. I got about 1/3 of the way passed the blowers, and BAM!!!!! 75-ish year old lady behind me in a Durango, it seems mistook her gas pedal for her brake. I think my van is totaled.
barnie.gif
I have a 2003 Town and Country we bought new and want to run until the motor or tranny dies. To be totaled over this is not making me happy. I have a year left on the truck and do not want to have another car payment, so I will just drive the truck if they don't just cut us a check for the repair. The repair entails the entire back of my car being replaced: the gate, the bumper and everything associated with those two things. She just kept saying, "I am a good driver. I put my foot on the brake and it wouldn't stop!" Really? If you put the clues together, lady, I think you can figure out what happened, just stop denying it already.
When she hit, I felt like a hammer hit me in the back of the head. SO, off to the chiropractor I went. I had about 15 X-rays of my neck and some massage stuff done. I have to go back tomorrow. DS was with me, and so far he is not feeling too bad but said his back is hurting some.
The good thing is, there are a couple of cameras on that car wash, so the people handling this can see what happened in black and white (I doubt they spend the extra bucks for color video ;) ), and there was no way she could deny it being her fault, she slammed me pretty hard. Her radiator is shot, leaked all over the parking lot.

I got home just in time after the chiro to get chores done before it was completely dark.

I did get rid of the 4 remaining turkeys today, so that is all good and I have a little room in my freezer again.

Now, to finish reading missed posts and get to bed. I may find that I still need to reply some sarcastic thing to one or more posts, but then off to rest my weary head and ice my neck, just maybe not in that order.

Coffee, that poor girls ear :( ouch! never seen anything like it!

I was going to post about lessons I learned last winter as a first time chicken owner with a smaller coop/flock, but it will have to wait as after reading all this, I don't have any time left to do it. I'll have to try and get it out here tomorrow.

Nite nite everyone!
