Minnesota!

Cough cough bull caca cough cough. Thousands of birds were tested with only two positive results. Of course, they and to come up with SOMEthing to give the public. I am not buying it.

well, yes, that (lack of finding wild birds with the avian flu) does kind of raise more questions, doesn't it? But it, meaning the flu, had to come from somewhere.

I'm off for a birthday weekend. Spending the evening with friends (happy hour here I come!!), tomorrow my partner is making me pancakes with maple syrup and bacon for breakfast, my very pregnant daughter (I'm going to be a grandma!!!! any day now, she is due 10/29) and her husband are joining us later at my house. Going to make some cakes and watch my beautiful new rooster (thank you again Ralphie) and have a birthday bonfire assuming we can handle the freezing cold.
Sunday I get to have a lazy morning, and then in the afternoon off to a friends house for a gathering (hence the making of multiple cakes).

Enjoy the weekend everyone. Hope it is perfect for all, and hoping everyone's flocks, critters, relatives, and others stay safe and healthy.

Rhetts !! that wolf, oh wow.

Not really any new info there, or answers. If it was 40 separate waterfowl introductions, how did the goose get through the door into the "secure" facility.

One would need to trust the government and the news outlets more than I do to find anything "trustworthy" in what was said in the article. It leaves me with more questions than answers.

What if it was a "planned" introduction to drive up profits per bird? Do not scoff at this too much, even us paranoids can have enemies!

Yup, something just like that.

My question is who do you point the finger at for the introduction?

The government? Big ag companies trying to fix the market? Big pharma companies trying to get rich on a potential vaccine?

I hear ya!!! The least plausible origin is the birds, in my mind.
Ralphie, it's ironic you mentioned McMurdo today then at morning break I stumbled on this while sipping my coffee:
http://m.mentalfloss.com/article.php?id=63741

It's an article about how they have ATMs at McMurdo (a very quick read)

I have a friend who spent a year down there. I tried to get orders too at one time, but no billets open. I ended up on Diego Garcia instead. Look it up. 7 sq miles of land, 23 miles from tip to to. Nicknamed the Footprint of Freedom.

Rhetts, you are living the life I want to live... Wonderful!

Been here, but I locked my self in... have an emergency pull rope now! It was very hot when I locked my self in, thank goodness it was just after dark so I didn't die. took DH over an hour to realize and come let me out. There is a thread on people who have locked themselves in, it is quite commical, i'm in it

Have a great birthday!!!

1. If I could binge on Netflix for an entire day I'd watch this show: What do you mean "if"?? My hubby has been binging on Homeland. I would like to sit and watch all the stuff I missed while I was off playing with my chickens.
2. One place in the world from which I want to send a postcard: It's a toss up between Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland, Antarctica, and New Zealand.
3. You could chase me to Russia with this food: Gag me with liver too!!! But I know there are probably other worse things I just can't think of right now.
4. The daily chore which I dread: all of them.
5. Fastest I've ever driven a motorized vehicle:100mph, scared the poop out of myself and backed off as soon as I pegged it.
6. Tried my first alcoholic beverage at this age and thought adults were nuts to drink it: maybe 5. My dad's fertilizer company he was a salesman for gave their guys a bottle of Black Velvet every Christmas. He didn't drink, but he would give us kids a capful and laugh at our faces. I hate whiskey now.
7. First person I ever had a crush on, can be real or celebrity: Bugs Bunny!!! I would run up and kiss the tv whenever he came on on Saturday mornings. LOL
8. Favorite chicken breed: BUCKEYES!!!!
9. Do I have enough chickens? Pa-leeze!!!!
10. One question we want to ask others here but are afraid of being laughed at: Would you cross the road naked for $10,000?
(That would be the low cost of getting me to do it. I am NOT giving up the goods for cheap!!!)

For the sake of conversation, who do you think stood to gain the most from the outbreak?

Corporate turkey farms in the beginning, but then the pharma companies making the vaccines for Tamiflu and the new one for giving to the birds.
There was the 50 mil that the feds gave Minnesota too when they outbreak hit hear. Who got that?

Hey - am loving all the answers to my midnight quiz!
Thank you for answering!

So far DR has driven the fastest but I'm not sure an airplane is fair game..
