Minnesota!

This is what he said. It kind of screams creepy!!

How are things guy, I interest with what u do so can I join with u to share ideas?

That's what I do... PDZ just on the poop board and a little sprinkle in the shavings. The poop board is so easy to clean off, takes a minute each morning with a kitty litter scoop. I don't get much poop on the coop floor at all because they really only go in there to lay eggs during the day.

I've found there's a fine line between too thin and too thick.... too thin in the winter and the runny poops soak through the PDZ and freeze to the actual board and then I have to wait for a day over 32 degrees to get it scraped off

Get yourself some vinyl flooring to put on your poop boards and sprinkle thin on the PDZ. Even if poop freezes on the vinyl, it will come off.

just another thought,, what about putting layers of newspaper down on poop board and everyday just rolling up layer and tossing it in compost??? any thoughts???
I like that idea very much! I am always up for ways to reuse and recycle!

I heard from the dealer about my fancy chainsaw today. Husqvarna is sending them even more special tools for testing. I'm starting to think that my saw may have been the first of its kind to break down! Coming up on 2 weeks in the shop...
Maybe they are like the company my DH works for "Let's roll this new machine out. If there is anything wrong with the design, we will just have the technicians in the field figure it out and deal with it."

I also have another ponderous story to tell..
I have found my mouse population to be growing in the chicken food shed. Two nights ago I set 4 mouse traps. Yesterday morning I had 2 dead mice, one empty trap, and one missing trap! I rebooted the 3 traps last night.
This morning I have 2 empty traps and the third is missing! What?!? What is going on here!?!

They are baited with peanut butter
I bought two metal "mouse hotels", I think is what they are called. They can get in but not out. I put the bait inside, they get in, they eat it, they die without being where other critters can get to them.

For rat traps, get the black ones called TomCat. They have ridges, like teeth around the edge, and no rodent escapes them. If I worry about birds or other critters getting into them, I may put them inside a squirrel live trap and block the one end and set it near that "back" side, so once it is in, it will have a better chance of getting dead.

Those rat traps are the ones to use with a weasel trap too. They are strong and slap their heads flat. The ones with the spring on them are pathetic and don't hold nearly as well.

No no no... That is not what I wanted to hear. Ick! I will be at fleet farm finding rat traps tonight! I've never seen a rat before but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they were here.

This is the time of year you see rats looking for a place to go for winter, near food. Unfortunately, mice and rats will attract weasels, and then you have an even bigger problem.
ok, spent some time on the web, and apparently these aren't rat droppings because they are round:

Note: they were shiny this morning but have been scuffed up by the chickens:

these are large peppercorn, or tiny pea sized

who made this poop?

and you can see from the feed on the ground here why I am probably feeding the greater population in Minnesota of whatever these critters are. I tried withholding feed for a day but nothing seemed to get cleaned up...probably just need to dig it in in the few areas around the feeders where it is bad.
Cottontail poop. Rat poop looks like mouse poop but bigger.

Would rabbits eat chicken feed??

Yup.

I got a PM today from a guy who asked if he could join me in teaching and learning. He said he likes the work I've been doing... What does that mean???

That is a great idea, but I agree with erlibird on being very careful. If you haven't told him your age, don't.

You need your parent or guardian to check this person out, don't give any personal info. Be careful and cautious!

Yeah, what do people know. We Star Wars nerds have to stick together.

I wasn't a SW nerd until my son found my old VHS tapes when he was 2 1/2. He was hooked. Then came the Phantom Menace when he was 3. He has been a total SW nerd since, and I joined right along. I could kick his butt on SW Trivial Pursuit. Now, he is still into the gaming and all that, but I don't get too crazy about it. I would like to see the new one, but I won't go and try getting tickets on opening week.

I agree he sounds foreign holm. His English is choppy or translated if you will. In which I think you can still ask BYC to block him for you. He probably found the info on Facebook. I see a lot of foreign folks posing these odd questions on here with breed questions etc.
if he creeps you out it is always good to trust that instinct. Show your mom and dad and have them help you with some BYC admin and go from there.

Hi Minnesotans! I just want to show everyone my flock! My brother and I have two African geese, 3 mallards, 3 fawn and white Indian runners, 3 Buff orpingtons, 3 khaki campbells, two old English game bantams (thanks to bantiesrule!) and one Maiden Rock hen. One of the geese enjoys flying, as do the most of the ducks!
