Minnesota!

I have realized something this week....
Chicken dust doesn't bother me, so long as I can't see it. This week, the sun is just right so I can see every dusty bit in the air and it drives me nuts!
This just happened to me today!! LOL! I know it is there obviously but today when the kids came in after cleaning the coop brushing themselves off in the entry way I about freaked!! I could see every speck of it flying off in every direction and I just wanted to cover my face!! HA HA but I can go in the coop and sit there for an hour watching birds breathing in concentrated chicken dust.

ok, who installed the light switch on the sun and started turning it off at 6:30?? Seriously! how am I supposed to have time to prepare for winter AND watch chicken TV if i have to come inside by dinner time? I took tomorrow off work to try and get ahead but now we are due for rain.... that will be a bummer for sure. Or I will end up toughing it out then end up deathly sick....

So...two things are glaringly apparent. Ralph could not possible haul enough Mikes, Peruvian coffee & peaches in a truck to hold him for a week. And I cant imagine him abandoning the Creamettes so long. After spending way too much time considering what could have befell to Ralphie, I'm reporting back to the Turkey Thread as follows :

Ralphie went hunting & fishing. When he ran out of his "special " coffe and Mikes (Harder) he realized he could ferment the remaining peached. Thus drawing the attention of Sasquatch. They are spending time planning their trip through Memphis to meet Elvis. (Ralph actually said they are tripping through Memphis in December ). He is brining me one of the criminal calico Jakes for my single (but looking ) turkey hens. If...that's a big if...Judy will ride shot gun with said jake.

Ok...that ought to satisfy the Turkey thread folks.....:lau

Question for those with experience.
I plan on processing some of my geese. I was planning on smoking them and then freezing them. I am thinking that I can just take out of freezer and heat in oven with some glaze or sauce or something so it would be easier for me. Or am I thinking wrong. I haven't done goose before.
How long should I rest the bird after processing before smoking? How do I wrap a goose for freezer storage? Or would you just freeze it now and smoke them as I take them out of the freezer? I have about 6 geese to do. I have 2 smokers I can use at one time. What do you think?

I am a total newbie here as far as the whole thing goes. Never cleaned a goose, never cooked/smoked a goose. So any pointers here would be very helpful!

I picked the last of my chili peppers tonight since the plants have frosted. I have them in racks in my oven on low to dry... my whole house is spicy! wooooo! cleaning out my sinuses for sure.

They will make good spicy chili this winter though

ok, I gave in and texted Ralphie. Not sure if he has phone service where ever TOGO is, but...will post back if I hear something. I think I am just nervous with my daughter due any day now, waiting is a pita. They sent her into the hospital for assessment because some of her tests weren't great, almost induced her but are waiting to see what her numbers are tomorrow morning.

anyway, I'm anxious about that, so it is spreading!

Lala, you will be holding that new baby in no time and all your concerns and worries will have vanished!! I am sure things will be fine sounds like they are keeping a close on her and baby. Do you guys know if it is a boy or a girl?

Yeah dairy is okay for chickens.

There have been some blurbs on threads on feeding layer feed to roosters or non-layers and extra calcium not being good for them...their kidneys or something.  But my roo eats what his hens eat and he is just fine as far as I know.  It's too hard to keep two kinds of feed to satisfy the nutritional needs of one bird in my flock.  When I consider the other 9 (hens) most important when it comes to keeping a type of feed. I have done all flock with oyster shell on the side/free choice...but I think my girls laid better on layer mash. Just coarse observations over the last couple years.

All I could think is good luck separating fowl and feed. My roosters are just going to have to suck it up and eat what's put in front of them.
At this point they are none the worse for the wear.
