Minnesota!

I believe what we have here is a God moment. I'm sure that guy is very appreciative, and even if he doesn't get that job, there are tons of other jobs here in Minnesota right now. Because you had a feeling you were suppose to pick him up, it is good. I believe If you weren't suppose to pick up the guy, you would have felt that. Did you take him to Red Wing? or to Mpls?

To Red Wing, to one of the churches there. I had to be back home for my son to go to work.
I had travelled on my own, driving, a lot when I was younger. I had car troubles, people helped me. When I was a teen and had family troubles, people helped me. I think that is how we get through those tough times in life, with a hand up. Sometimes we just need to pay that back to help others, and to help a little bit of ourselves too.

THanks for the kind words all - I showed photos of juvie bald eagles, goshawks, and golden eagles to DW and she say the Juvie bald eagle looks most like what she remembers. This doesnt surprise me really. We live just close to Rice Lake State Park where a large population of bald eagles live. Do bald eagles migrate? we havent ever seen them at our place before but plenty in the area.

Yesterday my buckeye at roost time was soaking wet across her back with many blood feathers and free ranging in the rain snow mix--she's almost too tough for her own good -- everybody else must have taken cover and were dry and fluffy. So took buckeye up to house. Since she's been a chick she's protested being held and although she filed a mild complaint I could tell her heart wasn't in it as she looked uncomfortable and hunched on the roost. I got her in the bath room and turned the blow dryer on low and she nestled right in to the sink basin and rolled her eyes back. Lol. Not quite the struggle I anticipated with her. Hahaha. Anyways got her back down to the coop and she began preening and much more comfortable I could tell.

This weather is probably more dangerous for birds than the 25 below in my humble opinion. Especially when it dips to freezing after a rain.

You are not kidding about this weather, it is my bane!!! Wet and cold like this every year gets a couple of them rattling and snotty eyed. My first year with a big flock, I lost 30 out of 200 because a respiratory infection hit them hard. The swing temps 40-60 degree changes overnight and back did not help either. The culprit was one Dark Cornish rooster I kept medicating instead of just putting down. I learned many lessons that week, two are: use the right treatment immediately, and don't keep a bird around that gets sick more than once (they are compromised and keeping them compromises the rest of your flock's health).
Yeah yeah, we all talk big, don't we.... I'm a firm believer in the 'happy wife, happy life' motto. I just have to swing things right and I can still get what I want while keeping her from being upset with me. Ralphie knows all about these tactics. It all about convincing her it was her idea all along!

Y'all men are cracking me up! I will be the feminist here and bring up the point that we all know the women are the more savvy and cunning and manipulative ones in the relationship, AND we wear the pants, even though you think you do! Klop, you are a smart man to realize that keeping the Mrs. happy is the way to go. She will let you be happy longer too.
I can't divulge too many of our secrets that have been passed down from mother to daughter for eons, on how to keep a man, but I will remind you, "If Momma ain't happy, Ain't nobody happy." My husband worked in the electronics department of our building, I was an air traffic controller and he was a radar tech, and the old guys in his shop told him when we got married, "Just remember, the answer to everything is 'Yes, dear.'" After 22-years, I still let him sleep in the bed. He's a smart man.
The bag balm and clhorehexedine came this morning! Should I apply it on their feet tonight before they sleep? And will any future eggs be edible?

Will have no effect on eggs. Use it as soon as you are able. and if you can do it twice a day in the beginning, that would't hurt.

Gahh.... finally starting to see results. A 5 gallon bucket of Tomcat chunks, some sort of pelleted bait in lil bags, and now another 5 gallon bucket of Jaguar chunks. That is a horse manure fork to give you an idea of size. Eggs aren't disappearing as much, no new holes in floor boards, and this is 5th one I've picked up. War!

Minnie... That silkie chick of yours is a silver gene based white. It will be one of the most brilliant white birds you will raise. They don't yellow in sun or from eating yellow corn. Its a good thing! If you get to really show extreme double dose of the gene, your chicks will come out a dark blue and feather out white. As adults the males will have almost a smokey undertone and when bathing you will find them to be almost pewter when wet.

Just posting to let y'all know I am still alive. I have 30 pages to read to 'catch up' if you folks don't post too much more in the mean time!

Disappointing news, the trapper says if we don't catch the wolf by tomorrow morning he is removing the traps. What does that mean for me I am left to wonder!

I am kept really busy these days but hope things slow down soon so I can spend some time here without so much time in between visits.

I hate hate hate rats!!!! It is good you are getting them though. I like using the TomCat bait chunks, but I have to use them with the live traps where they get stuck inside and eat it. I have caught more rats with my weasel traps than weasels too. I like the black rat traps that have the jagged edges like teeth, nothing comes out of those alive!

That was exactly what I thought! Not my chick, but wish all of mine were like that, I have a mix of gold base and silver based. I need to pay closer attention to that next Spring while I am hatching and just get rid of the gold based ones.

Still got the game cams up? I wouldn't let your guard down either way.

Welcome back Rhetts. As I've said I sometimes wonder if some of these DNR--boots on the ground guys--half way just want you to handle it yourself. That's almost the way they act...dont you think? What a PITA.

Destiny I can't get over that rat. Has Minnesota always had rats or is it just sort have been in recent years we've had them move in.

A friend of mine in St. Cloud said she saw a dead oppossum in the middle of I-94....What!? I thought all that stuff was south of us or on seaboards.
