Minnesota!

That is exactly the point. I do not want to know the politics of any business I do business with, if they are overtly political and making political statements I will not go there.

Without making a political statement, the political and ethical dealings of a business affects my spending choices.
REI closed the day after Thanksgiving? Awesome.
Chick-filet closed every Sunday so their folks can be home? Awesome.
Hobby Lobby suing because of birth control? Not so.

And don't get me started on Wal-Mart.

As much as I am able to do so financially I'll let my dollars reflect my values.

lol, I misread your original post and thought it was dunn brothers you preferred not to grace with your patronage. But it was starbucks! but, I am equally ignorant about starbucks.

I like local companies regardless. I hate hate hate the global conglomeratization of the world, where you get the same old same old regardless of where you travel. San Francisco is considering putting some $$ towards supporting local businesses that make San Fran what it is (or was). Minneapolis development bucks go to national retailers, so the pottery barn folks can get $$$$ for store build outs, etc, but the teeny tiny I'm going for bust entrepeneur wont qualify because they have no track record. Thats why in these retail developments you find the same danged store as everywhere else, nothing interesting or unique.

I like Urban Eggplant in St. Paul, a funny little store into sustainability. They sell chicks! plus organic feed I can't afford, and all kinds of cool gardening gizmos, things to ferment stuff (beer, sauerkraut, whatever), bee stuff, etc. (between my comments on coffee and sustainability, bet I lose redneck points)

That is a cool store! I suspect they target the hipster urban farmer, not the Fleet Farm crowd.
The same folks that buy vegetarian dog food...

DW says that all the time

she says I knew the deal when I said I do lol
You are a smart man, married to what sounds like a smart woman. ;)

What creature panics easily and has a cute white fluffy bum? Other than a chicken?

BC beat me to it but that my first thought since i have a freaking yard full of the little poopheads . btw they do eat chicken feed, they get in the pasture and eat at the long feeder for the outdoor/mixed flock all winter long, leaving behind their little piles of poo.

Yes, isn't that ironic?

Sometimes I like being able to rely on things I want to be consistent, but you will never find me in an IKEA store. First, their stuff is butt ugly and has no character.
I hear you all on the little mom and pop type places that have their own, and I like those for going out to eat and for shopping for that special gift you won't find in a big box store. But there is something to be said about a cup of coffee, and that is where chains come into the picture as a good thing for me. If I want a cup of coffee, I want to know what I am getting. I have been burned too many times where I go into a local place and get mud in my cup. Nasty. I won't lose redneck points since I am pretty sure I don't have any ;) I do go to Starbucks, but it is a treat for me to have my
Caramel Macchiato when I have to spend a whole day running errands in Rochester either before or after chores and all the rest of the duties I have here at home. Last night though, I tried their Salted Caramel Mocha and spit. What is wrong with people that they would drink that??? Or add pumpkin to coffee??? I love pumpkin, I love coffee, but they don't belong in the same cup!!!!

I like cute and eclectic stores. Because they usually find cute old timey stuff too and have fabulously cute ideas. But I usually can't afford said stores and I only use them, paruse them and steal ideas and run out to Fleet Farm and try to mock up their ideas. Fleet Farm and L & M are my FAVORITE Stores. I can get about everything I need there. Baking goods, chicken feed, basketballs, hockey skates, archery stuff. Under Armor. One Stop shop! LOL.

My husband and I working where we do not speak politics in our businesses. Because we count on too much the money of opposed party's as well. LOL. Politicizing your business is a Gambit and NOT smart business, IMHO. It is alway good to stay on neutral territory if you want to make a dime. I don't know STarbuck's politics either. But I can tell you I can't afford their coffee.

I like Folgers Columbian. So good and nutty. And then that Highlander Grogg that Minnie and I like.

Kloppers your whipped.

Good looking run there by the way.

Coffee, pure and pure. No pumpkin!

There is nothing at Trader Joes that doesn't have pumpkin in it! Argh!!

Fleet Farm, Tractor Supply, my favorite places.
They have jeans my daughter doesn't wear through in two weeks, chicken feed, and a great gummi bear candy selection.

As far as politics at work - all I can say is Hatch Act. It rules my life.
