I would never live anywhere that had either. You "own" the property, you pay taxes on it. Why does everyone else get to say what you can and can't do on it. It really disgusts me.

I can understand why there are regulations about how many chickens a property owner can have. There are those hoarder types who would have 500 chickens in a back yard that is only about 100 square feet. But to not allow people to have 3 hens without someone breathing all down their necks or charging them outrageous costs for permits is just so wrong.

I am looking for some good BBS Ameraucanas if anyone has any or knows of someone who has them. I do not want hatchery, but they don't have to be exhibition (super expensive) either. I do need them NPIP though.
Let me know. I would like some that were hatched in the spring if possible. I mean the calendar 'spring' not last week when it felt like spring for 2 minutes.

So this morning a builder working on clearing for a new house down the road called. He had a nest of Mallard eggs that were going to get crushed or if I wanted I could come over and take them (he has seen my coop from the road). I drove over right away and put them under a broody cochin that I have. I was just discussing with her yesterday that being broody was a waste of time and effort on her part. Not to mention she's very cranky and not making any friends around here very quickly. I guess she knew that some little babies ducks were going to need her!

I would let the DNR now that you have them. It might be okay with them if you release them back to the wild. We have to have special permits to have mallards in this state. I would hate to see you get into trouble with the DNR. I got a picture of a breeding pair in my swamp.

I would not say anything to the DNR if you need a permit. I've gone through that with a Canada Goose. You won't get a permit. Most likely they'd be taken away. We don't need one in WI for mallards, but we can also buy any kind of turkey from the hatcheries. MN residents are restricted.
