Minnesota!

Well, you can't blame a guy for trying.

I can appreciate your wife's frustration, but you are right, it comes with the territory if you are free ranging especially.  I don't think Conrad is doing his job, or big Buck.  They should be calling those ladies in when danger flies overhead.  I know I hear those dino growls when anything passed anywhere near my pasture, and everyone flies or runs for cover.

About my coworker- I was mostly bummed he didn't even hint that he was looking. Just dropped it like a bomb. At least I get 3 weeks to prepare. I am getting a newbie to replace him so I have to train his replacement.

I agree about my roosters. Mostly I just think I don't have enough. At a 25:1 ish ratio, not all of the hens stay that close to buck and Conrad. Not much I can do about that right now though I suppose. The flock with get to spend the day in their new covered runs and check that out. With rain due it's probably better that way anyhow

Kloppers maybe the new work mate will be even better than the old.. We can hope.

On the rooster front, I know where you can get a few roosters, and if they die protecting the girls, it is no big loss.

I am only going to keep 1 of Bert Jr.'s half brothers, the rest are headed to camp unless someone wants them. They are huge birds, and should make great guards. But with roosters only time will tell if they are a good rooster or a serial rapist.

Speaking of Serial Rapists. King George (the speckled Sussex Aussiegal gave me) is a great looking bird, but he needs to mature. He beats on poor Junior, so I have to let Jr out to free range one day and King George the next. He is also thinking about challenging Ed for top rooster spot.

I am thinking that will be a mistake. Ed is very tolerant, but a challenge to his leadership could result in less tail feathers on King George. King George has been making moves on Muffin and so far Ed has not stopped it. However, I have not seen him actually do the deed, and I am sure if he tried Ed will not look kindly on it.

BTW thanks for the posts this morning, I need them during my coffee hours.

One of the gals spent the night outside last night. No wonder the roosters were bent out of shape.
Walked out to open the coop and she came out from under some brush and said good morning. Black hens have the advantage!

Oh, I never gave my condolences on the lost hens either... So here it is Condolences...

And Kloppers a HUGE condolence on not being able to get another shotgun. Wives can be so unreasonable when it comes to new guns. I find it is better to buy it, and sneak it into the gun case, Once it is there they assume it has always been there. To wives all guns look alike. And if she by chance should ask how long have you had that gun? Or Is that a new gun...

Your reply has to be vague and a stock answer..

"Oh, I don't know. Let me think. I have had it a long time, not sure when I got it".

Problem is I don't even have one shotgun... I am deprived. My thought was I could leverage her sudden desire to learn to handle a gun and bank on her needing a gun she could hit something with. I was thinking it would be a shot to get a 410 into the collection and maybe piggyback a 12 gauge while i was at it :)

It does bother me that I own guns and she refuses to even learn proper gun handling techniques but I guess I have to settle for her adamant refusal to even touch one.

I am in for a long hard day.

I am having another "Grandpa's Adventures in Daycare" day.

My Grand daughter (4) gets up around 7, my Grandson (20 months) gets up around 9.

This morning as I am reading the ONE and ONLY new post of the day and drinking my coffee around 6;30.
I hear my granddaughter coming down stairs. However, something is off, she is talking to someone. I know her mother is not out of bed yet.

Then I hear it, Calvin is talking to her. She is saying "come on Calvin" Come on down see Grandpa" and the like. I am shocked to see him awake so early.

I asked my DGD. " What is Calvin doing up so early"

She says " I got him up" "I pulled a box over to his crib and helped him get out of it".

I said " Why/"

SHe said " Because he wasn't tired anymore"

I said " wasn't he sleeping?"

She said " just a little bit, but he was almost awake"...

I think this could be a long two days...

I am so very sorry I neglected you, Ralphie. Will set my alarm earlier and post mindless musings before you even get up.
