Minnesota!

ok, what is the one thing you couldn't face winter without having it?

for me, its the ice armor fleecelined wind pants. I put them on every danged morning in the winter and do chicken chores. They made the biggest difference to me last year, don't know why I spent years and years messing with long underwear and jeans!
Good Question!
I like having a one-piece snowmobile suit. I've been wearing my mom's old one from the 70's for the past few years but it got a big rip in the seam last winter and I don't know how to sew....
You can't really find them like that anymore, mostly it's just the bibbers in wild neon snowmobile colors nowadays. The closest thing I could find to it are the Carhartt-type insulated coveralls. The name brand stuff is pretty expensive so I found a generic brand at TSC for way cheaper. I haven't had to wear it yet, so we'll see how it compares to the ol' vintage snowmobile suit. It's a much stiffer, heavier fabric so hopefully I can move around in it.
The thing I like about the coveralls is the full coverage with no chance for drafts or snow down your pants or up your jacket. You can throw them on over anything, whether it's pajamas or goin' to meetin' clothes and you've got full coverage from the elements and chicken poop.

Good morning all! I am off work today, yet here i sit at the kitchen table on my work laptop.... sigh....

When i wrap up this 'emergency' I am out to spend the day working in my woodshop! woohoo! time to get the wood stove fired up!

What are you going to work on Klop?
My husband loves his shop. He gets a fire going in there and sometimes doesn't actually do anything but stand there drinking beer and spitting sunflower seeds. I think he gets some good thinkin' done out there

Today I am going to work on reorganizing. I pushed a ton of my tools and junk into the corner this summer to brood chicks in there and now i need to get everything back where i like it so i can start working on christmas presents. I need to wrap up my Lincoln Log project for one nephew, then I am making a wooden tool set for a different nephew. it will have a little tool box, hammer, screwdriver, saw, and more... all made from wood :)

To try to answer the PMs I have gotten. these are 4 foot by 10 foot sectioms of fence mostly. Some sections are smaller. They have poles for corners and are made to bolt together. Location is in New Brighton on 35w and county road D. First to come and pick them up get them. PM me for my phone number if you want them. This is high buck storage caging for free that can keep a wolf out if you bury them a couple feet so they can't dig under.

The new girls exploring the coop this morning. Very very cautious! the brown is a barnvelder named violet! the tiny barred rock in the background is a bantam, and I'm surprised I've fallen in love with the little thing. She makes a funny little "meek meek meek" noise. the White puff is the silkie....and what looks like a barred rock tail in front is the dominque. There is also a red star not pictured.

THey survived the night in the cardboard boxes in the car just fine.

breakfast - they pretty much tipped over the feed.

Hopefully there will be some eggs from them this morning!
I have half the coop closed off and open to the outside so the other girls can come in and lay. Probably about 2 or so I will open the door between the two sections and also the door outside. Not looking forward to freezing my xxxx off outside!

something about getting older really does make you regret the cold more.

think I am pretty lucky to get a set of 6 healthy pullets that have just started to lay!
funny thing is their owner told me they do not use the roost in the coop. we will have to see how that goes. Watching them explore the coop, they hav enot jumped up on a haybale or anything, let alone the multiple roosts. I expect they will learn from the others.
