Minnesota!

My little chicks are growing like weeds! They are putting on feathers like mad and guzzling food and water! They are still so cute!

Minnie you have me a little worried with your comments about them looking like welsummers... They are putting on brown feathers! I thought Sussex hens were black!

No, SS are a dark red, then the get the black and white tips on them. They are colored a lot like Wellies though. The good thing is, if they are Welsummers, they are pretty and they lay nice dark brown eggs and they are generally a fairly calm and friendly breed. Where did you get them?

As for the chow hound chicks, try some Buckeyes, they are like vacuum machines with the food. They will eat your arm off as chicks to get to the feed even. They are a hungry breed. LOL But I had to turn one over yesterday for some reason, which is only 3 weeks old, and you can already see a nice chunk of breast meat is growing on them!

They sure can go farther! The brooder is 2 foot by 4 foot, tons of room for 2-3 week olds. I have 5 buckeye pullets (MCM line) and 6 mutt Easter eggers. Love them all the same!
Uh, excuse me?? All the same??

Hurt my feeling, man! LOL
They are perfect, they have plenty of space to find where they like to sit and where they are comfortable. If they were all huddled directly under the light, that wouldn't be good. If they were all pushing against the far end to get away, that wouldn't be good, so somewhere in the middle where they can pick the spot they like best is just right.

Hello, all!! Love all the chick pics. hoping to get a few cx. Have to drive all the way to the Anoka Ramsey farm & garden center. Long hall. I don't even know if they have them yet.

I was just out there Saturday and yesterday and they have chicks. I picked up a few Khaki Campbells. I was surprised Elk River TSC was out of everything. Not even a sick looking chick left. But they did have 20% off of all their yard decor....because I needed that 55 inch barn star and windmill.....

Yesterday I bought a package of string cheese for snacks only to find my DD outside feeding it to the chickens. They love that stuff!
One of the babies ( eight weeks old) found a worm, we laughed so hard watching it run about the yard being chased by its' seven siblings.

Last night there was a flock of 16 out in the hay field. They were headed right for my turkeys. And now this morning there was a flock of 20 on Chipper hill. Chipper hill is a big hill that our old horse Chipper would go up on top of and stand in the breeze and just relax. So thats the name we gave the hill. And the hill is about 150-200 yards from the house.
