Have thought about it and would like to sell some of the Jersey Giant chicks. This was intended to be a small project and 22 are too much right now.
The breeder was selling them for $20 each, but I ended up paying about $5.50 each.

This is a straight run.

I Swear. I have a bunch of freethinking chickens!!! Middle of the night and everyone has to be an individual, one in the box, one in the bottom of the coop, one on the coop door, one in the run and one on the landing on the way to the run and it has been like this all winter! Heaven forbid one would be on the roost!!! Bunch of backwards sap suckers there!!!!! What is happening to this world!! **** chickens are thinking for themselves! Next thing you know people will start doing it and then it will just be like one big revolution!! Dumb chickens.

Blanch, I see you did another stealth visit!

Came home yesterday to 4 broodies. After I clean out the coop today I'm going to set up two broody quarters and let 2 of them sit on eggs.

Also came home to major dust holes in the garden. THe little foragers got out while I was gone because a branch blew down and knocked over a gate. I was sure happy to see all were safe and sound in the coop when I counted heads, but am not so excited about the flower garden. Oh well, most of the plants are still dormant.
 
good morning all! the sun is shining but it is still quite nippy! I have been very productive this morning and was just about to sit down with some coffee and check in on BYC and next thing i know my dogs are going bonkers and tearing around teh house. The Jehova's Witnesses are here! Hurray!

I was headed out to tell them to leave and not come back (I dont particularly care that they want to share with me, I just worry about biosecurity) but DW said she did want me to be 'confrontational' as if I was going to step outside, cock my shotgun, and tell them to 'Get off my lawn' lol! I guess I will need to put up a no soliciting sign on the end of our driveway and call it good

We have tons of robins and other wild birds passing through today. I love hearing them sing and chirp

The sun is shining and that makes me and and chickens happy.
My saddles finally arrived and the hens are in full spring fashion.

A red wing blackbird is at our feeder right now, and you are so right, their songs are lovely.

My flock was all ready to head out to feed then saw the neighbor's dog running outside with the neighbor's son. They turned around and marched back to the coop with the roosters in full alarm mode. They've never done that before.

Hope everyone has a great day. It's my wonderful mother's 81st birthday. Celebration is in order!

The Jehovas witnesses are always at our house. But thats not our religion... So we tell them we have a church and dont need one of the papers but they always leave one on the deck...
