Minnesota!

minniechickmama, so sorry to hear about your son, sending you and your family best wishes. Hospitals are exhausting even when you aren't worried to death about someone you love.

I'm starting to wonder if the rooster was old enough to do his job....hopefully at hatch date I won't be running around trying to find chicks for the broodies if the eggs don't hatch. Maybe I should learn candling...

Scandia, near as I can tell, press and seal is some kind of fancy plastic wrap for food. I try really hard not to use plastic or foil, and it takes me a couple of years to go through a roll of either, so I can't tell you the last time I was in that aisle in a grocery store. They use it just to keep the heating pad clean, which a towel or something could do quite well.

I am sore today from hoop coop building, and I am soo sorry that the ticks are out like crazy. quail won't eat them either.

My Maiden Rock hen is broody on 12 eggs! My brother candled the eggs and most of them are growing nicely!

Just so you know, I will have eggs all Summer long if you need something for that broody ;)

Hi folks, I just wanted to drop in to say hello and I wish I had time to catch up on all the last few pages but I am beat. My son was admitted to the hospital last weekend and we have been making two trips a day down to see him every day and trying to squeeze all the must-do stuff in in between. He is doing well now, but may be there a few more days.

I hope everyone is getting their chicks and finding happy places for them. I just got another hatch of 67 out this week. The brooder house is pretty full, but Holm will be coming to take a few Buckeyes off my hands tomorrow. I wish I would have more time to spend chatting with him, but it will have to be a short visit, plus he has quite a drive to get here and back.

It has been a whirlwind but the critters don't stop needing their care. My tom cat started limping and we discovered he has been out scrapping with something. His front leg has a couple of wounds and he is not happy when we start touching the leg with them on it. He is cleaning himself, but we may need to wrap him in a towel and treating them and doing some wrapping to get them healed. We shall see. He doesn't like to be handled a whole lot and he was not too impressed when I started squeezing on the gunk coming out tonight. Poor fella.

I will be back to my regular visits to the page soon, I hope. You all better be enjoying all the sun and warmth! Time to get those gardens going!
Sorry to hear about your son, hopefully he gets better from whatever is going on. I am sure that is stressful!

I was just over in Elba visiting the coop yesterday and was thinking of you as we hadnt heard from you in a while. I was picking up some fertrel Nutribalancer to start mixing my own feed starting this week!

It sounds like you will be having some BYC guests today at your place! exciting

the bobwhites are gone. I opened their run this morning, keeping the chickens in their run so the bobwhites could forage a bit more.

20 minutes later they were scurrying off in a covey to the oak woods. cattle used to graze their a decade ago and it is still pretty open. I believe it is for the best, the last day or so there was some frantic chasing (boys). I am sad!! I heard them calling a bit this morning but it has been all quiet for the last hour or so.

Hoping for a light winter again. this wasn't a perfect option but at least they will have a good shot at making it, and can enjoy the outdoors instead of being cooped up. Not a domesticated breed, that is for certain.

minniechickiemama, its good to know you might have chicks - hatch date is april 30th. I know if all the eggs are duds I'm going to have to get them chicks, poor broodies.
