Minnesota!

the bobwhites are gone.  I opened their run this morning, keeping the chickens in their run so the bobwhites could forage a bit more.

20 minutes later they were scurrying off in a covey to the oak woods. cattle used to graze their a  decade ago and it is still pretty open.  I believe it is for the best, the last day or so there was some frantic chasing (boys).  I am sad!!  I heard them calling a bit this morning but it has been all quiet for the last hour or so.

Hoping for a light winter again.  this wasn't a perfect option but at least they will have a good shot at making it, and can enjoy the outdoors instead of being cooped up.  Not a domesticated breed, that is for certain.

It's a good thing, what you did. They are in their natural habitat.
Hope you get a glimpse of them every once in a while!

Talking about mixing feed, I finished up my grinder. check it out! (with appropriate soundtrack

Are you going to be feeding it wet? I would go for a larger texture, myself. I don't like that fine of feed, the birds sneeze and shake their head something terrible when I used to. But wet, I bet they would love it!

Well, my son gets to come home tomorrow. He has Bipolar Disorder and suffered a really bad manic episode and didn't sleep for almost a week. It was a tough one, but now we know some answers as to what has been going on and can treat it. He is almost 18 so it was good it happened when he was still at home and where we could make some much needed decisions for him.

Yes, I had visitors, it was great to me Holm, and our old friend Bogtown came out to get eggs for a school hatch as well. I always love being able to put faces to the names and having a chance to meet in person! Holm is going to be the next quality Buckeye breeder in the state ;) He might beat me at the state show, we will see.

The weather is so beautiful, I just can't believe it is only mid-April. We broke ground for our first garden on April 19, 2000, and it was still cold and we got snowed on after that too. Now, it is Summer already! I miss the Spring, two weeks was not enough.

@lalaland seriously, if you need some chicks or hatching eggs, my EEs are doing a great job laying now and I just hatched a few this past week. I am setting more this week too. I am almost done hatching for some, but I am switching roosters for some of the large fowl and will need to hatch a few from those. I am thinking about what to start cutting back before we are in full Summer mode and I am feeding out more than I need.

I may or may not be on this week, but you all have a good one and enjoy this amazing weather!

i was planning on wet feeding the broilers but not the layers. if the mix ends up too fine and causing issues i just have to adjust the size of the holes in the screen and get a finer grind. the nutrient mix is a powder so i want to try matching the textures. i can make adjustments as i go. thanks for the warning though, i hadnt really thought about dust being an issue. i was worried more about the palatability of the feed
