If they were large olive colored eggs then both were from a hen who was an Ameraucana over a Cochin, has a beard and muffs, feathered legs and is a charcoal blue. I was certain that she was a cockerel when she was a chick because she was heavy and had thick shanks, but she is lovely. I have some that I kept back from my first EE hatch that are from a Cuckoo Marans and the Black Ameraucana rooster that are pretty cool. I would have loved to get more olive eggers for people before, but I found that I had a Marans hen eating all the dark eggs! Just the dark eggs from the Marans, the snot! So, she seems to be heading toward the compost or soup pot pretty soon if she continues this behavior and I catch her. I moved her to the mixed flock outdoors in hopes that a change of scenery would know it out of her. I am still evaluating her.I think they both have feathered legs. For sure the black one. I'll have to look more closely at the newer chick. It is definitely got bluish color to the fuzz! They are big and robust! beautiful. What is the mixture of the olive eggers you gave me, Minnie? Just curiousity.

I would need to see the shell color to know what hen it is from. Was it an Olive colored egg? if so, they have the same mother, if not, could be out of a Marans if it is was a darker brown.
It will be curious to see if one is a pullet and the other cockerel, then perhaps some traits are sex-linked. Or just random? Who knows, I am not into studying it too hard with these ones. They come out cute and will lay or make a good soup or dinner, so what else is needed?both eggs seemed very similar. Both a light olive. How neat she has two different looking chicks. Gotta love genetics...![]()
No but I would love to know how to do that so... I'll ask too, does anyone have a green house or something, somehow, that you grow things in the winter besides in your house.......
No greenhouse (although I'd love one) but I do grow greenery for my birds all year round in a few aquariums. I grow a couple varieties of duckweed that my hens go nuts over.Does anyone have a greenhouse where they are able to grow stuff all winter?
