Minnesota!

What kind of chickens does everyone have?
I have a BSL, RSL, Australorp, Silkie and two mixes!
We have Icelandics, Tolbunt Polish, Orpington (black and lavendar), German New Hampshires and Japanese Bantams (my DDs). We also have a few crosses and various hens for eggs (Welsummer, Maran, EEs, Ameraucana (not EE), and sex-link) and for cuteness (silkie, serama and frizzle). We lost our Welsummer roo 1 1/2 years ago when our dogs managed to get into their pen. I eventually would like to replace him, because we really like having the Welsummers. Most of our birds are 2+ years old because we hatched very few last year. Over a year ago we had more than 100 birds, but have cut it down to just about half. Too many pots in the fire made it hard to concentrate on just a few. We have one EE mutt rooster and one of his girls left (buff orpington) from our original flock of 11. They are 5 years old now and will be here through their old age.

Hey everyone! Have had some birds for about 8 months now, and decided to say hi! I live in Finlayson, mn. I travel to Duluth everyday for work, so I get around a bit! LOL! I am wondering if anyone knows anybody with pure Aruacana around here? I am haveing a hard time locating some and the egg by mail deal hasn't panned out so well yet. Thank You in advance!

Hello!! I hope you find one!

I have four Cochins, one Americauna, Rhode Island red, New Hampshire red, and a speckled Sussex. :)
I love Cochins and Ameraucanas!

First, are you sure it is Araucanas you are looking for? Not Ameraucanas? and not Easter Eggers? Yes, there is a difference. Thanks to some big hatcheries that mislead folks on these three groups/breeds, there are people who think they are all the same. The Araucana is VERY hard to find and are distinctively different from the other two. If that is really what you are looking for, then you would be best searching online for a breeder of pure ones that way, but be careful, like I said, lots of people have been mislead and will advertise their Easter Eggers (mutts) as Araucanas.

I meant one of them!!

There are so many bastardized spellings of that breed by hatcheries trying to fool the dumb, like me. I would like one to have to mix into my mutts. Just like I want an EE and Crested cream rooster to mix in.

I guess it just depends on the chicken and how it was raised!

That, and I think, some are naturally friendly some grouchy and some testy. Some laid back some high strung. All mine were raised the same, but the all act differently. ( Except the ones the turkeys raised and they are just weird.)
