Minnesota!

Mine were in great shape this morning, flying out of the coop like bullets

We're giving the groups more integration time and it seems to be working well.

Zeus, however, has taken an extreme dislike to one of the younger roos.

I would not worry too much about roos fighting. It happens. Soome one learns to run when a higher one comes around. UNLESS you're talking about baby roosters... MY Roosters seem to hate each other, they try to keep the other two from breeding and when I throw down treats they come to the treats when the higher up one is done. BUT when there is something in the air or one of them makes the warning caws, they all seem to stand together to protect the girls and babies.

The young tom gave a warning call the other day, who knows why, and I noticed all three roosters froze and were looking to the skies.

Speaking of predators, sorta, I have been thinking back and I have not lost a bird when the guineas are out of prison, when I locked them up for breeding or because they were driving me nuts is when I had problems. Has anyone else noticed that? The guineas are dumb enough and loud enough to harass anything that comes in the yard, I think.

I think my Blue turkey is broody again. (see picture of hand for details) It was injury free prior to checking under her, removing eggs I did not want hatched and fake eggs and adding eggs she can hatch.

She was one mean bird today and she just started sitting last night!

I am afraid I will get nothing done, as I now have to sit home, drink some Mike's pain relieving Lemonade and recuperate. I thought about calling my wife and see if she could use sick leave to come home and open bottles for me so I don't have to work the injured hand.....BUT I thought better of that at the last second.

We got an inch of rain and some hard wind, but everything seems pretty well intact. Some loose boards blown around that I had piled on the deck of the brooder house. A few buckets blown around too. It wasn't nearly as bad as they were first calling for, but I stayed up until it all passed anyway, those big storms have made me nervous since we moved here 16-years ago. I am still not used to tornado warnings, and our basement in not exactly a comforting place to hide if one were to come around.

I did get a lot of garden work done yesterday before any storms came. They first said 4pm that they were to roll in, then 7pm, but it was about midnight before the wind started howling, so I worked right up until dark weeding and reseeding (dam cottontails are eating everything as fast as it sprouts this year). The strawberries are sending out runners, so we are setting those for next year's crop. The raspberries will have loved the rain, they are coming on nice now and really needed the moisture to sweeten them up. I always like the fall crop better myself, these in July never really get as juicy or as sweet. Even our newly planted Blueberrie shrubs have a few berries on them! And a new apple tree we just planted in May! I SO wish we had a root cellar! That is one thing that keeps getting put on the back burner though as we keep talking about our "house project".

It is supposed to be another cooker, and with all the fresh moisture, it will be sweat factor 5932. GROSS!!
I think most of my day today will be spent in the house with SOME relief with our room A/C going.

Glad everything went well for everyone... I understand the basement is not a great place to hide, mine is a glorified crawl space with a cement floor. I would like a root cellar too, I tried to make a fake one when I added onto the house, but it did not turn out like planned... oh well...

I need to put the AC in and I might soon, I still have eggs hatching for another week, then I can put it in, it seems my hatches get worse (if that is possible ) if I run the AC.

I finally sold the last 2 started pullets I had. Only get 10 bucks for the 2 but thats not bad since they r so young and forage for their food (unless I have to catch them then I use food or if they r cooped up for some dumb reason). I also butchered a BR roo today. I ended up skinning it out. I am never butchering a roo thats over a year old again. So I set butcher days for my other roos for when they r 18 weeks. Next butchering will be the 1st of September.

These lil' tikes r already in the big coop and free ranging!! I hate how fast they grow. But they still need a heat lamp at night.

My Broody wyandotte ruffles her feathers and growls but never pecks me, the little silkie mutt is a different story. But she's the size of a grouse so its kinda funny.

This is the first one that really let me have it, other threaten but never fallow through. My broody BA with the keets fluffs up and stamps a lot but never bites. Ethel is Ethel she doesn't like ne around her babies, but she is never rude about it..

The self blue I took off the nest yesterday was mad but actually good natured about it.

I am hoping her bad attitude means she is truly broody and will hatch the eggs.

Everyone make it out of the storm ok? My young apple trees didn't snap so that made me happy.
Holy crap what a toad strangler we had up here in Brook Park. I swear the lightening lasted over 2 hours. I swear it. Then we had a lot of thunder this morning, more rain but not storms.

The goats are loving it. bunch of down leaves from the trees. I haven't heard Ole and Lena fussing so they must be in bug scratch heaven.

Toad Strangler? So funny! I've never heard that term before!
