Minnesota!

Gotta say hats off to you boys. and God bless all you girls that are into this womans libs stuff and keep up with the boys. But i gotta say i DONT like it im a girl and there is just some jobs that id much rather leave for the boys..LOL.. like this coop i know im going to be proud when its done BUT i can say it sucks. sawing. drilling holes.itchy insulation.heavy wood and shingling no thanks never want to do that again.. Huffing the wood pile around and all the yard work i kinda enjoy BUT this digging stumps out of the ground SUCKS..you boys can have it...today i dug 3 stumps not sure what kind of weed tree they were from but the stumps look like something from a alien movie .. Cool thing is i used a chainsaw for the 1st time today gotta say that was a little scary..but it worked easier then the saw zaw thing i was trying to use.. lol...And my poor chickens when i get some arent going to have a worms,, out of all the digging i did i didnt see not 1 worm,,just a bunch of nasty grubs.. ive never lived anywhere that didnt have worms in the ground..hummm wonder why???....anyways i just thought i would kinda vent a bit..Thanks Tina

Great bunch of chickens!!
@NikonD2xer I missed your recipe conversion!! I could have used it too. I miscalculated and ended up not making enough liquid.

Here are the fruits (veggies) of my labor:

Nice work!! I have a lot of respect for someone that can cook well while making something they don't care for. I have a friend who is a vegetarian. She can make meat taste so **** good. It is a shock as well.

So cute. Wish I had room for them.

Yea i Did It.. read all 874 pages of MN BYC.. took several days but I did it..sure i will get behind again by the time im done posting this. btw not sure if im posting right. we will see. where to Start??? Hello... i never join forums but told myself if i read all this and like it i will join. guess what i think you all seem great. My name is Tina. I dont have any chickens yet but im working on it. Im almost done with my coop but i keep changing things the more i read the more i change. i still need to make more vents now that i know how important they are. then MAYBE paint, again. I always wanted chickens but was always to busy I was married almost 28 years me and hubby sold our lake home and bought a home in Anoka till he retired then had plans to move up North WAY up North.. but 7 days after we bought our temp home he died of cancer that was almost 2 years ago/ no we didnt know he had it. it hit him hard and fast BUT i guess thats a good way. he gave me the best life i could ask for, I have 1 son that turned 24 couple days ago. he went to college then joined the army and is now married she is also in the army. So it is just me now. Ive been trying to stay busy and thought what the H.. might as well get chickens..LOL...so I have been learning to build. I dug through hubbys tools and hit menards.. Ive been watching you tube lots of you tube.. seems like every time i put a board together it is wrong so ive taken it apart and started again. strange how if everything isnt squared up it doesn't turn out. I think im finally getting the hang of it..I will try and post pics of my progress so far but i think i will just try and post this 1st to see if it works..fingers xx/ed.....
Welcome aboard!! You read the whole thread?? WOW. I could never do that without my eyes falling out. Just reading everything from the last few days took forever.
I really like your chicken coop. It is so big for 6 chickens! I had to go through lots of the same hell as you to get a permit. We have a apartment building in the back so it took a while.

Well I don't have pics of my show but I do have some from before that I didn't know were taken. Now if they onpy got pics of me riding her....

A kids gotta rest from all his walking at some point.
Ha!! That is an awesome place to get some sleep. I can sure tell why you got best behaved. All the love your animals get is obvious. I hope I will still see you at the State fair!

Blanch-glad you had a good trip! It is always nice when the birds act like they actually missed you. Does that mean they might even like us?!

All of todays hard work just melted away as soon as i sat down with my big bowl of strawberries covered in Hersheys choc dip...BTW did i mention I dont eat eggs and im not a big chicken eater,,LOL

So Blanch how many chickens can you have? im sure you mentioned it in a previous post i just cant remember...and do you lock your girls up tight from the 2 legged predator's? I know i hate to think my neighbors would do something like that but I dont know every one in my area and it is becoming well know that i will have chickens people drive down my alley everyday and stop and talk to me about my coop. the conversation always starts with I heard you were getting chickens and we thought we would come see..

Blanch ranch Welcome back.. We have a VERY loose definition of redneck here. Almost anyone can qualify. However, seeing the target center from your front door can be disqualifying.

A tannerite cannon!!! I am so excited I have a new project to work on....

Coffee welcome to Anoka County sand. Finding a worm is a real challenge in the sand we have. If I recall correctly the proper name is Isanti sand or soil. I will have to look that up, it is bugging me to forget something that important. Coffee one thing with our sand is we will not have the worm and related disease problems those on heavy soil have.

I removed me turkey hen from her nest this evening. She actually attacked me. She flew up into my chest feet first wings beating. I feel so sorry for her. She has been sitting on eggs or a nest for over 3 months. Her eggs are rotten. Some where partially developed, but many had maggots in and around them. I am going to move her tomorrow and put her in a pen until she breaks broodiness. She cannot live another 3 weeks and I am not giving her more eggs in that spot. Poor thing wants to be a mother so bad. I wish I had a baby chick or two to put under her tonight.

I weed wacked 3 rows of corn today, the ragweed was so tall the deer were having a hard time finding the corn stalks. By cutting the ragweed out the deer can steal my corn easier. I have 3 rows to do tomorrow. I only cut a couple corn stalks.

I bought some rye today to plant in my field. 18 bucks for a Bushel! And the gal at the feed store had the nerve to say, but the bag is 56 pounds....DUH.. It is a bushel of rye! I bet the poor farmer that sold it to the mill got about 6 bucks for that bushel..... GFTG what is the price of rye? I need to find a farmer to sell me grain, the feed store is way too expensive,.

Does anyone here make their own chicken treats? i was looking at the chicken square treats and on the norm they are around $5 each. im big on making my own stuff,,,butter, spaghetti sauces, noodles, dog food, bird suet,,, just about anything if i can make it i love to....In the square treats there is just seeds, raisins oats that sort of thing and i think it would be way cheaper then buying them made...Thanks...

Well, I don't 'make' a treat square. I do give them table scraps or things like that. For example, I toss them the rinds from the watermelons, squash, zucchinis. I give them apple scraps or leftover oatmeal the kids didn't eat. The Thanksgiving decor like the pumpkins and such. you get the point. I made sure I read up on what the chickens can and can not have to eat and make sure of what I give them is ok. The rest of the scraps head to the pigs. And make sure the treats are not more than a certain percent of what they are eating for the day. I can't remember what the % is for sure but just be sure not to over 'treat' them.

Just got in from Chicken TV and evening lockup. Man what nice weather!! and it is supposed to be like this all week!!

I spent most of Chicken TV on the Dixie Rainbow channel. I am just getting a hoot out of watching them run around the garden. I have always thought that a chicken tractor was a humane way of raising broilers since they get fresh grass twice a day but after seeing how the rainbows act now that they get free run of a 30x60 area almost makes me feel guilty for making them stay in the tractor. Here is a few pics of the gang as well as a few of my leading candidates for the presidential pardon.

Have you ever seen feathers like on these guys necks? Not sure if they are developing new feathers or if that is normal. They are long, thin, and flowing. almost hair-like
