Minnesota!

I'll be sure to introduce myself. See you there.
Sounds great!! I walk with two canes, one black and one brown. I may have my service dog with and she is small, black with a red vest. I hope it is gonna be a good turn out as I am hoping to sell my geese for more than I bought them for. Plus with all the roosters I will have there too. In October I hatched out 39 BA chicks and just over half were cockerls. I only plan on keeping the best two out of the whole bunch.

I just heard that we are expecting around 3-6 more inches of the white stuff!! DRATS! I was hoping we would warm up so it would go away sooner. I am tired of walking in it and dad is tired of snowblowing it too. Now that my DH is home he has been really good about doing some of the snowblowing to give dad a break. I feel like this has been the winter from hell this year. It might be do to my health problems too but it still seem s way to long.

How about you guy's?

The cities have about 1/8th the snow we have up here in Brainerd area. Farther north like Walker don't have this much snow either. We can't ride the 4-wheelers as they all get stuck from the deep snow. Some places on our farm the drift's are 5 feet tall. My stupid geese got out and they were walking on top of it and we had to chase them back in through all of it.

We live about 45 minutes south of the cities and it's all ice. We have about 6 inches of snow on the ground and it's all covered in one big layer of pure ice.

Where are you? I am just a little further south of you and the same thing. Doing chores without my special strap-on, ice walking gizmos makes doing chores a bit treacherous.
The ducks can't even seem to figure out where to walk and are not enjoying the icing on everything.

DH talked to Game Warden late last week before the last 1-2 we got Friday and he said that there was 36 inches of snow in the woods and the deer are starting to show signs of starvation. Hard to get that snow pack down with -20. Good news on the weather pattern changing in two weeks! Come on APRIL!!!!

I live in Lonsdale which is about 20 minutes from Faribault.

Doing chores is deinfitely treacherous... I've slipped quite a few times. I've been having to go out 3 times a day to keep the ducklings' water filled. They go through water like there's no tomorrow! I will never raise ducklings in the winter again... I bought them because the sale this spring was just too tempting, ducklings were $2 a piece but I'd rather pay the extra and wait until the weather warms up.

Our chickens refuse to step foot in the snow. I've tried to get them out there, but they'd rather spend 5 months locked up in the barn.

If they are too wimpy to go in the snow, I toss them out. Yeah, I am mean. I don't have to do it too often. However, with the amount of snow we get lately, I have to go out and blow snow out around all the coops just to do chores and then they all come out. I say all, but that is only about 25-30 birds I have in the pasture. I have most of them enclosed when I start getting ready for hatching season. I can't believe how stupid they are either. I got tired of having to go out every night and put the dumb ones in their coop. Some sleep outside even when it is down to zero or below. Dumb Dumb Dumb! So, when people in the South get all worried their chickens are going to get cold when it is 40-degrees at night, I have to laugh my butt off.
I feed those free rangers outside also, so if they want to eat, they gotta put up with the white stuff. It is hilarious to watch them come out when we get a fresh coat of it!

As for ducklings, I have 32 coming this week. My son and I need to set up a duckling brooder for them that will drain off the water mess they make. I HATE brooding ducklings!

So, I ordered Chocolate Runners, Fawn and White Runners, Cayugas and Khaki Campbells. We have never had Runners, so this is our first try with them. I also bought some Cayuga eggs thinking I would have two bloodlines to use if I decide to keep any of them this year. I also figured that I wouldn't get many of the shipped eggs to develop since I have never had good hatches with shipped duck eggs. Lo and behold, the seller sent me extras and only 1 is not developing. I am pulling my hair out. With this cold weather coming, it makes brooding those things even a bigger pain the tush!

Anyone need some Cayugas? LOL!

I live in Minnesota, and am a new member; but have used this site for a lot of my questions on chickens. Looking for some Mar ans, Americana, and crested cream leg bar fertilized eggs so my other hens could be moms. Have any ideas?
