That's good she starting bounce back. If you have any poultry electrolytes that you add to water you can give her that in her water. It will help replenish any salts or other things she has lost because she was panting. But if you don't have them it's fine to.

Thanks! I didn't even know such a product existed, glad I asked. Unfortunately I live in the heart of suburbia 45 min from the nearest farm store, but I looked it up and I have all the ingredients for a homemade version that I'm putting together now.

Sounds like you gave her the best immediate care you could have. Maybe some scrambled eggs and some yogurt would be a nice treat, but the water in the biggest thing. She will likely be fine in a couple of days.

Sorry to hear of her accident though. You are a good chicky daddy, so I bet all will be back to normal.

Has anyone had any experience with golden sex link? I keep reading that they are prone to health issues?

The problems you are probably referring to with the sex links is likely the problems associated with the super producers. Because they are bred to be such good layers, they develop issues that pure breeds would not. Most of their problems are somehow having to do with reproductive issues.
Honestly, and am not trying to push my own stock, but going to a local, reliable breeder of healthy birds is the best way to go for the healthiest birds that are more true to breed than going big hatchery.

Sounds like you did all the correct things to get her cooled back down. From some of my reading I've seen that chickens will wade in water or low spots holding water to cool off. Also their combs and wattles have such vascularity that if you can cool these areas in an emergency that is helpful. If you watch your birds on a hot day they'll drop their wings to cool and one might try cool water under the wings as well. I keep a bag of merrick's blue ribbon electrolyte and probiotics on hand. A bag costs $5 and I'm literally on the same bag for 2 years and running. I should probably just replace it with fresh bag. Homemade is good too, and the probiotics from Minnie's suggestion of yogurt is a great idea.

I previously had a few black sex links and they were the friendliest birds in my flock. But I just moved and didn't want to bring my old flock with to the new place because i can't let them free range anymore. Im going to miss my rooster franchesko, he was a cool dude.
