I have an open door to a covered run so the birds can go outside anytime they want. I have a small wind break on the north side of the fence also;

They were louder, but when I opened the door they quieted down a lot. PLease turn your volume way up to get full effect.

Hey, I definitely heard a turkey in there too!

Yeah, the noise drives me nuts, same thing with a braying donkey. It has always kept me from getting either, even though with ticks I would love some guineas....
 
Speaking of ticks...

There will be no tick and mosquito problem today, that is the good news.

Now, what is wrong with us?

My IPhone app says it is 24 below here today, the thermometer out my window says -28 below, either one is too cold!

I was going to move my guinea hens to a different coop I was renaming Guinea Gulag. I planned to cover the paddock attached to it. This has been delayed at least 24 hours.

I am worried about my turkeys, this is the coldest night of the winter and 6 of them spend it outside. 3 hens are the only ones smart enough to go into the coop. I am betting on frost bitten snoods at least.
 
its been a while since i been on here things got hectic... BUT the black and blue orpies i got from minnie.. are in this odd love hate relationship with our family. they are very quiet nice and docile big and feathery girls. the love hate part comes in when i say they are a social curious pair that greets us and tend to follow us. love them that they are so awesome. hate when the following gets on our nerves. they even stand there for my toddler to touch them and squeal at them. never had a chicken he could walk up to before (besides penny). Minnie how did you get this temperment??? and how do i get MORE.
 
Although it's supposed to reach a balmy 25 degrees today I can't hardly wait for mosquito and tick season. I had to throw eight eggs out on Monday that had froze solid. Grrr. On the bright side the girls haven't slowed down on egg production. Had nine eggs from ten hens yesterday.

This might be a bit premature but I'm an optimist: Bring on spring!

I am jealous of your egg production!

Mine has dropped to nearly nothing. I got 7 yesterday out of 33 hens.

It will be nice to have the free protein for the birds again..


I am thinking a few of mine are stealing away nests. I caught a hen coming out from under an old granary we have. If she is laying under that I will never know, unless she brings out babies someday,(which will mean 3 months worth of frozen eggs first.

Yeah. I can't wait for tick and mosquito season ether! My ducks are laying every day, and even though the eggs are frozen solid... we take them inside and thaw them out and they are good as new! I don't see why you should throw them out.:(

I don't mind the frozen ones, but the frozen and cracked ones I through out.
