But be careful with lattice, I have had chickens hang themselves on that stuff.
No way!
I guess I believe it, though. If they were just a teensy bit smarter...

Its driving me crazy posting this again but my ducklings r for sale again. The guy back out at the last minute. I guess I will spend another day getting attached to them and their cuteness.
Ralphie-I have not seen her since May 10th. Not one time since. She was off and on staying away longer those last couple days (like hours) then gone completely. She always roosted here though. The toms do not and have not ever gone over to the woods where she went. I too think she might have been taken. They really are so vulnerable at night and we have SO many nighttime predators. I hope I am wrong and she shows up soon. But I think I know she won't.I am thinking back to when Ethel was away hatching her eggs, and as I recall we would see her every couple of days up in the yard, eating or drinking. She would stay for about a half hour and sneak away.
That makes me think, and I hate to say it, your hen may have had an accident. They are so vulnerable when sitting on a nest. I would think by now she would have the babies back to you. I hope I am wrong.
Sadly, it took me until the 3rd one died while I was in the pen to figure out why the first two were found dead. I have it between an adult pen and a juvenile pen. They all are spazzes at about 3 months. I went into the pen to look through and sex some. One cockerel (a really nice one, of course) was in the back corner, started making some weird noise and when I got the others out of the way, he was kicking where he was already dead. No, they are not smarter than that.No way!
